I hate this notion that we’re supposed to prove something about ourselves by being deeply concerned about the well-being of people who want us dead or in cages. That’s not how my decency is packaged.

Jaw-dropping that this is People, while NYT and WaPo just dither around. Serious props to People--PEOPLE!--for not pulling its punches. And NYT, WaPo, CNN, rest of you? Gauntlet thrown. If People--PEOPLE!--has the best Brad Pitt gossip AND Project 2025 analysis, what are you providing?
If you’ve shared this but haven’t read it yet, you should. PEOPLE isn’t pulling punches. Just printing “Christian Nationalism” in relation to the platform of a presidential candidate is more than many pubs have done.

The best way to lower the political temperature is to soundly defeat the party that contains people who refer to the other party as “inhuman” or say that they need to be killed or who suggests we should “second amendment” them.

I’m sorry a Republican voter shot at the Republican leader at a Republican rally, and especially that he killed a Republican rally-goer and injured two more. I wish it didn’t happen, and hope nothing like it ever happens again. I just don’t see how non-Republicans could be the ones to solve it.

I was actually shocked, and a little annoyed, by how many people were afforded opportunities in publishing or journalism because they were already affluent. The silence is what specifically annoyed me because all this time I felt like a ****-up.
The majority of people flatly do not understand — and would be honestly shocked by! — how little money most publicly known writers make

"His mastery of the modern media age" is quite a statement by a paper of record to make. Almost as though by reporting it this way you admit you're being played by this... person.

Popping on to say: A lot of rumors are about to fly about this rally. Trump's team is 100% going to try and take advantage of this situation. So will malicious foreign actors/bots/etc. Please don't auto share. Check your sources, and vet their wording/sourcing carefully.

exactly! you can run a prime time special on a new piece of this thing every day from now until the election and you should
Every page, every paragraph is rich with story possibilities. "Here's what happens to your health plan," "Here's what happens to your food safety," "Here's what happens to your overtime" and on and on. Every day, more to tell about the real life stakes. That's what real political journalism gives us

Let's talk more about this, shall we?
There’s a presidential candidate who organized a coup on live TV and was recently convicted of dozens of felonies for something entirely separate, and the political system is demanding his opponent step down.

An interesting question is why journalists don't see Donald Trump's command of the issues as relevant to the question of which candidate's mental acuity should be centered in media coverage of the campaign.
Whatever the verbal flubs, Biden’s command of the issues is sharp here. www.nytimes.com/live/2024/07...

This press conference is just going to confirm everyone’s priors. Biden’s made a few bad flubs but he’s showing a good command of the facts. I’d like to see Trump have to field foreign policy questions like this.
