a super fun thing about civil rights law is telling traumatized people that you can't help them. and then they say "so there's nothing wrong with [the worst thing you've ever heard]" and I say "i completely agree with you but ~supreme court~" and they get really mad at me, which is fair enough

This is really deeply concerning and it should be disqualifying. The strategy for litigants at that level isn’t convincing Alito they’re right (his jurisprudence makes crystal clear that he doesn’t give af)—it’s convincing the public that SCOTUS is a farce that needs radical change

Idk I’m just a humble small town public defender, but, for me and my clients, sometimes highlighting the injustice is the best we can do. Make the judge embarrass themself by forcing them to explain their quackery. It’s crazy not to try & do that in unwinable cases that get national media attention
