Constitution: People involved in insurrections should not be President.
Roberts court:...hmm, no, I don't see it.
Constitution:....
Roberts court: but the president should have immunity for crimes
It's a bit problematic how Biden has (a) narrow, limited power to have his agency draw up a student loan forgiveness process consistent with the statutes passed by Congress; but (b) complete immunity to tell everyone at Dept of Edu, "mark those loans as $0 or I'll put you in a pine box."
to put a sharper point on this, the President’s power to pass an executive order regulating emissions is severely hampered. his power to use the DOJ or the military to regulate emissions is nearly unlimited
I used to really care about the Supreme Court as an institution. Someone gave me SCOTUS water glasses as a wedding present. I'm that girl.
I don't respect the court anymore. The conservatives are hacks. Roberts et al. deserve to be mocked, booed, & ostracized for the rest of their miserable lives.
Roberts is not the worst member of the court, but he's a bad judge and it's always worth remembering that. He's the guy who wrote Shelby County. On any reasonable court, he'd be the conservative crank writing dissents.
If there were one piece of advice which I would give to a young person that I think is applicable to every career (and other parts of life) it would be:
You have to say what you want, out loud. No one can see inside your head. If you want to do a job or get into an area, you need to say so.
If FedSoc has nothing better to do than go after national treasure Dolly Parton—who is made entirely of love and light and joy and empathy—they are even more depraved than I realized
The NCAA and its leagues are moving forward with a multibillion-dollar settlement agreement that will allow schools to directly pay players for the first time in the history of college sports
I keep a little list in my head of the people I would be most embarrassed to get cooked by in a basketball game. Mr. Beast is a big one. Elon Musk. Jim Parsons. Eddie Redmayne. That sort of thing.
OK, I’m going to rate the “Clarence Thomas attacks Brown v. Board of Education” as misleading and inaccurate. (Also, even under the most aggressive interpretation, he was attacking Brown II, not Brown I).
This part was delicious: “We’ve never been private equity,” said Mr. Husby, whose company’s website address is adeptprivateequity.com. “We’re a traditional hospitality group.”
I love sushi but rarely eat it out because of the cost and this bromakase nonsense. There are still good places in NYC which are not like that but I will refrain from posting my favorite!
@joshchafetz.bsky.social did you see this?
