if stealing classified docs and lying about it while no longer in office is an "official act", we are well and truly cooked

Also remember the ID does not have to be current. eg an expired passport works.
Ridiculously, you now need ID to vote in the UK, because Boris Johnson tried to rig elections in his party’s favour. I’ll be putting mine in my bag tonight so I don’t forget it, or have a panic trying to find it, in the morning. And then I’m going to goddamn well VOTE.

And yet, the polls are where they are and it's not looking great.
I think a lot of this discourse is downstream from the notion that Trump is some mastermind with a finger on the pulse of the public, rather than a very beatable, unpopular extremist who won over a flawed opponent in 2016

Gotta laugh
I keep on thinking about how John Roberts messed up nitrogen oxide with nitrous oxide in a ruling on how the courts were better suited to provide expertise than experts.

Several misread the invitation, so to clarify, although it's pre-election drinks it's TUESDAY not Thursday.
Fancy pre-election drinks in North London, Tues night, 7pm? If I follow you, you're invited. DM me for the venue.

This place may have a future after all. Prickly people, micro agressions, threats of excommunication from the in-group. People cherry picking articles to suit previously reached conclusions then getting pissy when called out. Should get @t0nyyates.bsky.social back here at once.

Lack of places for women to pee unsurprising in a country that once introduced plastic bags as an alternative to toilets on trains www.stylist.co.uk/people/dutch...
When I first arrived in Tokyo, I peed in a urinal (not easy) in the mistaken belief that it was a kind of traditional Japanese toilet I hadn't encountered before. I remember thinking "Wow, this really IS a patriarchal society." www.theguardian.com/world/2024/a...

Oh, I'm definitely here for this. So much so, in fact that (after some egging on from @t0nyyates.bsky.social) a while back I started an account on The Other Place dedicated to one-star reviews of famous books from GoodReads (which I couldn't be bothered to do much with before I left there).

About 8 years ago, comparativists looked at US politics and said "if Trump is elected president, the comparative experience tells us it will be extremely bad. Corruption, authoritarianism, threats to civil rights, political violence...it's all on the table." And all those predictions were true.

Indeed, they will.
For decades, historians will be listening to Trump's increasingly incoherent, paranoid, vengeful, racist, anti-Constitutional and unhinged speeches, horrified by the number of Americans trained by right-wing media to ignore the evidence of their own eyes and ears. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024...
Trump’s bizarre, vindictive incoherence has to be heard in full to be believedwww.theguardian.com Excerpts from his speeches do not do justice to Trump’s smorgasbord of vendettas, non sequiturs and comparisons to famous people
