we've been reaching out to & been in contact with a bunch of newsrooms (including local news) but if you have personal contacts at news orgs, please have them email [email protected]!
I'd argue the problem is still audience building.
Bluesky is still a walled garden. Can't even view profiles or feeds without an account. So how do you spread news behind a club wall? You can't.
Bluesky should have a read-only mode for people that aren't permitted inside, at the very least.
I did see that the new level of Bluesky that will allow it to expand from 1m to 10m users is being developed. All the while, you do have a point. Passing the baton to Emily.
I mean, I totally get trying to cultivate the platform. But before I got an invite, I'd see artists I follow, post their Bluesky, and I'm like "great. what do I do with this?" but then they are gone now. I thought I would at least be able to SEE the site, like every other website, just no account :/
Yeah, just checked on a different browser. I put in someone's Bluesky link and it redirects to bsky.app. If you are saying there are "ways around that", that's not how these people can build audiences, or bring over their existing followers, especially those that hard-stopped posting elsewhere.
Do local traffic, emergency, & weather accounts, too.
Literally the only thing I miss about Xitter are the up to the minute traffic & weather accounts. When you were suddenly stuck in traffic, it was so useful, at least here in Seattle, to bring up WSDOT/SDOT to find out what was going on.
Will bluesky allow posts to be read by non-account holders or be embedded into news sites or will journalists be cutting themselves off from the outside world here?
If any writers, academics or potential flood of new journalists out there are in need of copy editing, proofreading, research work or simply reading the fine print on terms of service docs or pill bottles, my dog is looking for a little extra scratch, and not the on the butt kind.
The reason Twitter was good for journalism wasn’t because there were a bunch of journalists there nearly so much as there were lots of citizens on the ground reporting from everywhere. You’re not replicating that by bringing in Bret Stephens.
Next; political parties that care about international right and it's put in place systems; while we may not always like those; they are there for a good reason; to protect those core values of a true democracy. Let's do this but be careful; extreme right does not support that very democracy we value
[deep breath]
[I learned that on 🐦] 😉
Yes. Sorry. However, it works. With a little delay, as can be expected from a site that limits access & so initially doesn't have that much reach.
Also, I don't want to diss your indignation, but only my mum on Facebook uses 3 question marks.
