It’s scandalous to me that academic journals charge enormous fees to read but don’t pay the authors. And now they’re exploiting them further. What a racket.
This is an enormous scandal and reason for all academics to withhold labor from Taylor and Francis/Routledge

The problem with "where have you been" responses to people's rising political concerns is that we should be encouraging people to become politically active rather than scolding them upon their arrival.

Reposting the image Karl Bode posted in Rori's quoted post, with alt text. "You don't unite a diverse working class by scoffing at its diversity."
Hey if you're a teamster that's against dividing the ranks with anti-queer, racist rhetoric, time to make some noise. A strong union is not one that makes members suppress & surrender their non-union struggles at the door. Sean O'Brien should be ashamed of himself and rode out on a rail.

I really don't mean to be a Negative Nellie, but this is DC's third(?) try at their own Ultimate universe (after "All-Star" and "Earth One") and, well. Frankly, they should put more money behind Waid's "not quite the current DCU" books, those are selling.

*Just to be clear though, the misinformation that DDT was saving lives when it was banned is prevalent enough that you hear leftists saying it as well; I got this info from my lefty dad and probably repeated it a few times before I did some research on it for a paper on mosquito control

I was just saying how the only reason to even make a sequel to “Twister” would be to talk about how climate change has altered tornado patterns. What a waste.
"I just don’t feel like films are meant to be message-oriented," the director said... right on the heels of a Rare analysis showing how including climate in TV and movies "increased support for governmental action on climate change and boosted several hard-to-move attitudes on climate justice."
‘Twisters’ chose not to mention climate change. Here’s why | CNNamp.cnn.com The summer blockbuster puts nature’s ever-more destructive power in the spotlight. But like the titular twisters, there’s a hole at the center.

I cannot emphasize enough that straight reporting in the NYT should be verified elsewhere if you want to be sure about it. The standards are appalling.

I’m almost, in one particular sense, grateful for “Project 2025”: The radical reactionaries who are behind these plans and are in charge on the Right could not possibly be clearer about the extreme vision they want to impose - explicitly against majority will! - on the country.
I got to talk to Molly Jong-Fast about “Project 2025”: www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUJS...   The radical Right wasn’t ready for Trump’s first presidency. In 2025, they will be. What should people know about these plans for an authoritarian takeover of government?   🧵1/
What Makes “Project 2025” So Dangerousthomaszimmer.substack.com Will the Right be able to implement these radical plans? Is Trump on board? What happened to traditional conservatism? Let’s tackle some of the key questions surrounding “Project 2025”

Moments like this make you wonder what kind of world we might have if centrist liberals adopted preventative progressive policy proposals right away instead of being dragged toward them after the problems they were intended to prevent had become full-blown catastrophes.
Breaking news: President Biden is finalizing plans to endorse major changes to the Supreme Court in the coming weeks, including proposals for legislation to establish term limits for the justices and an enforceable ethics code, according to two people briefed on the plans.

people get mad if you point this out but Jon Stewart was always like this: it's just that his brand of "can't we just use common sense instead of being liars and hypocrites" moderate populism was the most left thing that was allowed in mass media post 9/11
