I would like to know who this coward is.
A senior House Democrat says efforts to replace Biden at the top of the ticket have stopped because, “We've all resigned ourselves to a second Trump presidency."
Trump rally shooting upends congressional Democrats' crisis over Biden's candidacywww.axios.com Rep. Dean Phillips said it would be "unpatriotic and unprincipled" to focus on anything besides the shooting.

Imagine noting that the campaign has been “unpredictable” and then in the next breath predicting confidently that this event would “irrevocably alter” the race
The assassination attempt on Trump upends an already volatile and unpredictable presidential campaign. It also appears to irrevocably alter the political landscape in the former president's favor ahead of elections. Read the Balance of Power newsletter

"We are all looking for who did this." To us in Europe, this really just looks like the media wanting a fascist in power so bad it is working overtime to manufacture it into reality.

Senate Dems should take one of their assorted gun control bills off the shelf, rename it something like "Trump Assassination Prevention Act," and force Rs to do a talking filibuster to block it

Viewing this conversation from my perch out here in Oregon, I’m starting to wonder if someone dosed the water in the east coast communities where liberal journalists and pundits live.

WTF. The electric company in Texas doesn't have a map of outages so people have been using the Whataburger App to figure out who lost power. This is like when Homer was using the Krusty Burger map when they got lost at sea.

how do I get the military job where I just hit computers with a baseball bat, in retribution for their sins
I found a Twitter account that just posts random screen caps from DoD slide decks and they’re amazing

Did you know there’s no such thing as a “canola,” and the word, which combines “Canada” and “oil,” was invented by a Canadian rapeseed marketing association? tastecooking.com/called-canol...

“He took away abortion and he wants to be a dictator” should be plastered on every surface and blaring out of every speaker.
Nothing is stopping every single Democratic elected official and apparatchik from taking the airwaves every single day to articulately and decisively repeat a set of cogent talking points about Trump (ie 45). Nothing. Dem PACs could be slamming him with ads now. Stop whining and do that.

The debate was bad but he’s done lots of public events since then and been basically fine. Old, but basically fine. But at this point it’s insane claims like “he can’t campaign” or “he can’t finish a sentence” he has to rebut, media-driven claims with no basis in reality.
sorry but this is just wrong. yes, there’s a bad faith media feeding frenzy. but *fifty million* people watched Biden sputter his way through that debate. it is not a creation of the media, it is a real problem.

I just want to save this series of tweets for posterity. Hopefully, we’ll have a chance to go back over what’s going on here when tempers have cooled.

I for one am pretty fixated on not having to spend even more years of my life wondering if Donald fucking Trump is going to deploy nuclear weapons

There's a neat rhetorical trick here where they demand Biden Do Something, & then the fact that he's Doing Something means he's admitting he's incapable. Biden keeps getting no-win scenarios from people who want him to lose
Trump’s public schedule showed that on most days, he worked (“worked”), like three hours a day. And this isn’t even a “Biden can’t work late at night” issue. It’s a Biden is pulling back on SCHEDULED EVENTS that start after 8pm, which is actually a good idea for most people.

here's the other thing about this: i have no real power to determine this, and neither do you. but i would walk through hell barefoot and back again to vote for a democratic corpse before i'd ever consider a) not voting, or b) voting for donald trump. this matters to me, it should matter to you.

I cannot count how many conversations with my friends in the past few days have essentially gone like this:

Joe Biden refusing to take advice from people who have been wrong about everything for decades could be seen as an indication his brain is still working

Even *IF* every word in the allegations is false and can be proven false (I don't expect that to happen here, to put it mildly), it's generally inadvisable to run to the courthouse. Defamation law can provide compensation for harm to your reputation. It doesn't fix the harm.
Avatar
Now, maybe winning a defamation action has a different effect. But guess what? That takes years and by the time it happens - *IF* it happens at all - nobody cares. It's just going to re-up a story from literally years ago. That's not going to do a ton to rehab your rep then, and it does nothing now.
Avatar
In the social media age, filing a defamation action against the source of a story might shut down that source. But it doesn't stop the story. It fuels it. People will post copies elsewhere just to make a point. There will be transcripts, and quotes, and chatter. And none of that goes away.

I do like that tech bros just keep reinventing shit we already have. This is fanfiction. They’re talking about fanfiction.
“AI will replace movies. I can make my own version of Star Wars where I’m the hero and Obi-Wan doesn’t die.” The problem is we’ve allowed a society where adult men can say things like this without being shunned from the village to starve as a pitiful outcast.
