People cannot seem to understand--or refuse to understand--that not all disability is static. With many conditions, some days are better than others. That doesn't negate the disability. It doesn't make the shitty days not count anymore.

It's important to note that in France, yes, a fascist majority was prevented, but they still doubled their presence in parliament. The fascists didn't stay home. They went & voted. It's just that enough decent people showed up to beat them back to a significant degree (& make them cry). SHOW UP.

If you steal $1000, you can be sent to prison. When health insurance companies steal $50,000,000,000, they get tax breaks, subsidies and government contracts, while the people they steal from die or go into debt. But keep blaming immigrants and poor people for rising crime.

I'm a fan of the Black Gotham Experience and the work they do. In particular, their walking experiences are excellent. I joined one of their walks this afternoon and it was a great experience. If you're in NYC, check them out. blackgotham.com#2

90% of research into "bionic limbs" is guided by "what makes abled people more comfortable to see" rather than what is actually more helpful for disabled people Like why are people trying to make "bionic legs" when leg prostheses are already better than "natural" human legs

Life’s tough for a whole lot of people & I try to temper my optimism for the future with the realities many of us face. Yet I still want to say that forming community that uplifts no matter how small does move the needle forward. Joy IS an act of rebellion and is fuel that helps us face adversity.

This is true in New York. If you're in the US and not sure about your own state... Google it now and commit it to memory!
in a lot of states you don't have to show cops your ID unless you are driving. So if you are wearing a covid facemask and they want to check your ID you tell them no thank you, and wish them a good day. If they stop you then you say no thank you, and shutup.

So hey, here's a thing I don't think a lot of folks know: That whole "Patient Zero" thing? The French-Canadian airhost who supposedly spread HIV all over America? That's not real. That's not what happened or how it happened.

that saying "You might not think climate change is real or serious, but your insurance company does" is becoming more true for covid as well

However, the CDC continues to go out of its way to stigmatize masks, not listing it in its core prevention strategies for respiratory viruses, and calling it an “additional” prevention strategy instead.

Bad headline (re: "bulking up" with "huge muscles") but a good story. If women want to care for their bodies & brains as they age, they need do resistance training. 💪

I love this and I feel this really hard as a writer of, specifically, cosmic horror. What do you DO when you're faced with a foe you can't defeat or understand? You still have choices left in your humanity -- not many, but a few -- and the horror is about exploring what those choices are.
I think part of our work as horror writers in 2024 is to help people unlock the parts of themselves that can face terror and adversity without losing their humanity & goodness. We are entering an era of fear and horror like our species has never faced. We need heart.

Great thread:
Ground rules: - I'm only writing this thread to help illustrate how people are talking past each other. - I'm not looking to argue for or against any way of voting this fall, and if anyone starts those arguments in my replies, they'll get blocked. This is a "how we're misusing words" thread:

Having looked at the details: Decatur, Georgia, you’re up right now, they are actively recruiting there! Mineola, New York, you’re on deck, they’ve got you listed but flagged as ‘not yet recruiting’. The intranasals look to be our best hope(s) for a sterilising covid vaccine, so this is important!
Want to sign up to participate in the clinical trial for an intranasal COVID vaccine? They're taking 60 volunteers who have had at least one dose of vaccine. They're recruiting both people who've had COVID & people who haven't. Go here in for the details: www.clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT064...

Keeping Trump out of the White House isn’t the only thing that needs doing and it isn’t enough to solve all problems facing the country & world but if it isn’t done then all those problems get exponentially worse in ways I don’t even know how to express and it scares me when people pretend otherwise
