Also a great reminder that as well as “run against Trump” worked in 2020, “run against the far right” can potentially work even better in 2024. The reason is SCOTUS. They proved the danger doesn’t stop at Trump.
there are many reasons we need to win in the fall, but one of them is that i simply am not going to abide by letting both the brits and the french lecture us

For those who don't know this story, which I first shared six years ago today.... This one time I got my days wrong at work and ended up alone in a room with my boss and the President of Ireland while I was on ketamine. 🧵
@seamas.bsky.social happy birthday to the greatest most relatable ketamine in work story of all time :)

Organizers got enough signatures to put a measure protecting abortion on the ballot in Arkansas. In *Arkansas*. They had *no national support*. Ignore the pundits melting down over not being treated as Very Special Boys. Dobbs has fundamentally changed elections. Everything they know is wrong.

Well worth the reading time. So charming. And a remarkably illustrative bit of anthropology. 🙂

“He took away abortion and he wants to be a dictator” should be plastered on every surface and blaring out of every speaker.
Nothing is stopping every single Democratic elected official and apparatchik from taking the airwaves every single day to articulately and decisively repeat a set of cogent talking points about Trump (ie 45). Nothing. Dem PACs could be slamming him with ads now. Stop whining and do that.

Got some new bookcases so I can finally stop stacking everything in my spare room closet. I like how you can look at each shelf like a sedimentary rock record to see where my pop-history tastes were at any given time. 🗃️ Next up: assembling the buddy cabinet for fiction.

TGIF, everyone For just one more week "Paris 1874: The Impressionist Moment" is at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. A remarkable exhibition, it celebrates the (difficult) birth of French Impressionism 150 years ago. If you're nowhere near Paris, this feature article gives you a taste: #ArtHistory 🗃️

Hey. If you have ever been somewhere near David Tennant and are semi-randomly approached to see if you have any anecdotes about David Tennant, assume it's enemy action. Sorry for vagueness.

We need to have a serious conversation about if Biden's too old to run, then Boomers are too old to vote. There are age limits for young people voting, why not just set the limit at 65 at the other end?

Anyway, billionaires spend a lot of money on depriving their opponents of the right or will to vote, and they aren't opening their wallet out of the kindness of their hearts. It's because it does, when all is said and done, matter quite a lot

A lot has happened in this past week, but don't forget that Neil Gorsuch and the rest of the conservatives said cities can criminalize needing a blanket in the cold.
The Supreme Court's cold ruling criminalizing homelessness: Justice Gorsuch's horrifying opinion in the Grants Pass case recalls an earlier heartless dissent. www.lawdork.com/p/supreme-co...

i think akhil amar reed captures something very important, which is that the roberts court rewrote article ii, which explicitly states that a president can be held criminally liable after impeachment (and which has long been understood to mean that he can be held liable after leaving office)
