Biden’s made it clear he's not dropping out. Stop this GOP propaganda. Focus on Trump being a felon, an adjudicated rapist, a convicted fraudster, and a twice-impeached president who let a million Americans die of COVID because his administration THREW AWAY the pandemic response plans left by Obama.

As an ancient with physical problems it is alarming to me how one bad debate has led to this discussion where normal aging processes are now treated as disqualifications.

Listen, say what you will about whether you think Biden should drop out, but this cover is some journalists using the opportunity to try to normalize some pretty fucked up stuff they believed already.
IMO this is a straight-up ageist and ableist image, no?

Everyone seems to have memoryholed that plan A was to skip over the sitting Vice President and move to a brokered convention, and only after people pointed out the *numerous* flaws in that plan did pundits revert to plan B and sing Harris’ praises. This should be setting off alarm bells!

I'm sorry, but if you're publicly in favor of going along with what these rich, high-power business interests and big-money donors want, you're a rube, and you're being led to advocate against your best interests. It's no wonder this is happening after Biden went after FAANG.

Just to be really explicit about what’s happening here, the cover conflates age, physical disability, and cognitive disability, and goes on to conflate disability with unfitness for office. It’s utter bullshit.

Man, if it turns out that the right winger telling NY Times readers that they should follow his example and not vote did in fact vote in the last two elections, the Times should add this to the piece. Better than a retraction, since it illustrates a willful hypocrisy.
He voted in both 2020 and 2022.

Jesus Tapdancing Christ, now the New York Times is actively telling people not to vote. Y'all, this is the smoking gun showing that this entire thing is one gigantic ratfucking operation. I genuinely feel for the folks who bought into it, disinformation ops often play into existing problems.

want to co-sign this one especially. people talk about the dynamics of social media like people haven't been believing crazy shit since forever. satanic panic. blood libel. witch burnings. take your pick. the medium is new and important to understand, but the fundamentals less so.
All of history is people believing outrageous falsehoods because those falsehoods were widely or universally echoed in their community. What do you think happens when those communities become mass media, and then unregulated mass media shaped almost entirely the imperative of online virality?

I have never heard an entire city cheer before or since. It was an experience. Because they knew, they *remembered* what losing democracy was like. I will always vote like the Greeks voted that day.

If voting is so pointless, then why are people freaking out so much about "the wrong people" doing it? Why is voter fraud such a boogeyman if voting has no meaning or power?

Also: record-keeping was worse and social pressures ensured that dark secrets were kept out of the public light/taken to the grave.
I unironically believe a small but not completely insignificant amount of this has to do with a number of the greatest and/or most famous political and social heroes of the mid 20th century being killed/assassinated before they had a chance to get slightly older and therefore publicly more flawed

The New York Times ratfucking operation in favor of Trump is so incredibly blatant that it’s beyond parody. If you saw ratfucking like this coming from a newspaper in a movie, you’d probably think it was a bit over the top.

It also makes me feel insane that the rat fuck around Biden’s age and mental capacity is being uncritically spread around by Democrats when Trump is *incredibly obviously* grotesquely mentally incapacitated, in a way that is genuinely terrifying.
It makes me feel very much unmoored from reality to see all this *buying into* the Biden Too Old ratfuck narrative, days after the Supreme Court ruled that Trump gets to be dictator for life, just weeks after Trump became a convicted felon (oh, and there’s the Epstein stuff that just came out).

People really do underestimate just how intensely humans have co-evolved with domestic dogs over the course of many thousands of years. (And with cats, albeit over a somewhat shorter time-frame).
When domestic pigs get out, they go feral in a single generation. When dogs get out, coyotes start behaving like domesticated dogs in one generation.

I also think that anyone who claims that pigs could easily be taught and trained to do everything that companion and working dogs can do is not actually familiar with either working dogs or pigs. (And that pigs have to WANT to do this). Very different species with very different motivations!
I think some anti-meat activists really gloss over how humanity spent 1000s of years molding dogs + cats into companions and co-workers who pretty intuitively understand our emotions- we haven’t done this with pigs and cows. It’s not exactly shocking that many people thus don’t want to eat pets.

Because dogs and cats are considered companion animals - even those born in the wild who have never encountered a human. Horses are considered utilitarian, and the shift from "work animal" to "food animal" isn't a huge one. Eating a dog feels closer to eating a human.

Classic American political dialogue is premised on the idea that we share fundamental values but disagree on how best to promote them. I haven’t believed this for a while. Other than “I prefer to be alive and not dead” and “I like pudding,” I do not share values with these people.
Yep. One of the biggest blind spots people have is assuming that underneath, others share the same basic values as them. They have trouble imagining an ideology that is completely misaligned with theirs.
