new york times columnists do not get to tell you what to do. fuck these people, they hope you'll apply to clean their toilets at less than prevailing wage and on a 1099. everyone telling you not to vote for joe biden is doing so because they want to stick their hands in your pockets.

here's the other thing about this: i have no real power to determine this, and neither do you. but i would walk through hell barefoot and back again to vote for a democratic corpse before i'd ever consider a) not voting, or b) voting for donald trump. this matters to me, it should matter to you.

Another thing you can do is call Dick Durbin's office and demand he stand up for democracy and haul Alito and Thomas before the Senate Judiciary Committee. And publicly demand their resignations. If you can't literally impeach them, AT LEAST use the bully pulpit. 202-224-2152.

Yeah it’s not like we’ll see a repeat of 1968, when the Democrats downshifted to a Vice President at a convention in Chicago that was plagued by protests against the party’s support for an unpopular foreign war and wound up creating an opening for a candidate they’d beat before. Totally different!

This is always what struck me about the economic anxiety argument. Nobody ever asked “what about black people experiencing economic anxiety, why aren’t they turning to fascism?” but it was the question that SCREAMED itself out to me.

Bridgerton fans getting upset at making a male character female, and a straight romance queer, is functionally no different from the racist meltdowns over the casting in Rings of Power or House of the Dragon, just replace racism with homophobia or sexism. Nothing else about the character changes!

A hill I will die on: Games are art. Board games, video games, whatever…games are experiences created for the purpose of drawing out emotional response, and that’s art to me. Yes, there are systems and rules and math and constraints…but it all serves the purpose of making someone feel something.

the way I would describe the toxic soup of nerd culture in that era is the sorest winners who ever lived nerd culture won and instead of celebrating it a lot of nerds tried to cling onto scrappy underdog status as long as they could, in increasingly unpleasant ways

It just so quickly devolved from “People are realizing comics are art!” and “It’s cool to like science!” to all this watered down misinformation, cheap consumerism, and the undercurrent of furious, insecure boys who feared they were no longer special
