a dead giveaway that project 2025 was written specifically for—and with input from—trump:

THE sentence of the day: A Macronist incumbent in the Marseille region came in 3rd in her seat. She just dropped out to support the left. She said, about why she's maneuvering to block the far-right: "Defeats happen, but you can never recover from dishonor."

I’m sorry, this is more than “a caveat,” it’s actually the whole story.

So voting is better than *not* voting when it comes to getting what you want? Huh.
BREAKING NEWS: Voters turned out in numbers not seen in decades to stop the far-right National Rally from taking power in the French National Assembly. Polls predicted a first-place finish for National Rally, which instead came in third in initial results as polling stations closed.

Sulzberger and the New York Times political desk are engaged in an interesting experiment, to wit: whether it’s possible for a newspaper to direct the outcome of a campaign and election through sheer, relentless posting

Honest question: who is in charge of making sure abortion access is on the ballot in every single state? Who is running point on this?
Organizers got enough signatures to put a measure protecting abortion on the ballot in Arkansas. In *Arkansas*. They had *no national support*. Ignore the pundits melting down over not being treated as Very Special Boys. Dobbs has fundamentally changed elections. Everything they know is wrong.

Literally 4 years ago a lot of people (including myself) said Biden was too old and his brain was half pudding. “You’re just noticing this now?” has been a pretty popular response to all this. Meanwhile, some stuff that went viral like wtf Trump meant by “black jobs” hasn’t been touched by media.

There actually is the German term "Halbwissen" ("half-knowledge") that describes what those people have. Often "gefährliches Halbwissen" ("dangerous half-knowledge") is used to describe someone making a bad decisision based on this level of being informed

This is true though. Every day Biden will be a new age that is older than any age he was previously, so reporting on his age will always be breaking news.
I just want to save this series of tweets for posterity. Hopefully, we’ll have a chance to go back over what’s going on here when tempers have cooled.

I gotta say that people are having a lot of trouble distinguishing cognitive decline (Trump) from age-related changes in expression (Biden). Biden is elderly and talks like it. Trump literally does not have preserved reality-testing

the breadth of misinformation is unreal. a woman next to us at dinner said she went to cuba when “trump opened the border” and her date said “best president ever.” obama did that!!! trump reversed it!!!

If you grew up on the west coast, I think you never quite grow accustomed to the east coast thing where every neighborhood sounds like it’s having a moderately disorganized battle each evening for a week around the 4th of July.

Compare this to when Trump says something like “we’re gonna catch Goofy and execute him for his crimes folks” and people in the press go “Mr. Trump seemingly analogized criminals to a Disney character as he called for harsher legal penalties”
what are we doing here? he accidentally said million instead of billion and then immediately knew it and corrected himself. he didn’t “flub a line” and then “make an effort to correct himself,” he did the speaking equivalent of a typo that you know you’ve made and instantly correct

What’s the German word for reading people who know less about a subject than you do and are more confident in asserting the right answer than you are?
