They’re already doing the birtherism again. Lol
If they do put Kamala Harris on the top of the ticket, I am prepared for a level of misogynoir unwitnessed since Rosa Parks sat down on that bus.

The reason the Pacific Northwest is so fascinating and eerie to Americans is because it functions as a gateway to an uncanny realm of magic and terror (Canada)

All you really need to know is it CAUSES IMMUNE AMNESIA. Imagine getting every single cold, infection vaccination all over again.
Most Americans don’t think about measles because vaccination had largely eliminated the scourge from the U.S. in 2000. But many Americans who survived measles as children never forgot how sick they were. These are some of their stories.
Isolation, extreme fatigue, lingering misery: What it’s like to survive measleswww.washingtonpost.com Measles is back, after vaccination largely eliminated it from the United States. Survivors describe having one of the most contagious diseases on Earth.

Long elections waste immense amounts of money. they harass potential voters into apathy. They play into the horse-race, scandal-fed view of politics that feeds deeply unserious media coverage. They NOT INCIDENTALLY make it difficult/impossible for campaigns to deal with last-minute surprises.
note how long it took the French from calling the election to holding not 1 but 2 votes? and organizing the shit out of the second one? LESS THAN ONE MONTH A national election does not have to be a painful 1.5-2 year process! the US election campaign should quite honestly not even have started yet!!

Wow. @nytimes.com has closed their Threads account and left the platform after days of getting just shredded in the replies for their handling of Biden post debate. Now they're getting dog piled on Instagram for running from Threads.

Isn't this one of the theories behind that kidney condition some farmworkers get California and florida?
By the time your 45 yo and in good condition, if your position puts you in outdoors for 8 hours the organ damage from our climate heat increase will begin to become visible. You may not have a diagnosed condition but the heart & lungs are working much harder than a 45 yo outdoor worker in 1974

Whose byline?
I know they get rolled all the time but for the Times to get rolled by “actually they just want to reclaim the values of Western civilization as they see it … with larger families and fewer immigrants” is the Times putting the 14 words in the paper

Hey look, WSJ lying to its readers again. "More than 1,200 coal-fired units have shut down in the U.S. and Europe since 2000, according to Global Energy Monitor. This has made electricity systems more vulnerable to extreme weather, as coal is a stable source of energy, albeit highly polluting"

A person on their own can kill maybe a few hundred people. White collar crimes have killed tens of thousands. Its hard not to look at the Bhopal disaster (union carbide India was 50.1,% USA owned) and think that wasn't violent
A hill I will die on: all white-collar crimes are violent crimes. It's just that the violence is removed from the perpetrator because the perpetrator is wealthy.

NYC shifting climate zones is really hitting me this summer because every so often now it will hit this heat humidity mix and suddenly NYC smells the way I remember Haiti smelling when I was a kid and it's unsettling.

Social media helped me build a career but ok
The very worst thing about social media, including this site and the Bad Site and every other site, is the illusion that by posting on it you’re accomplishing anything.

My 2024 hot take is: gatekeep like hell. You find a beautiful location tell only your closest friends. Keep that shit off social media. Unless you're talking about a literal stadium with explicit capacity keep that gem to yourself. Make people work for it

We need more, but credit where due: both The Nation (June 2024 issue) and Boston Review have run a breakdown of the Project 2025 “Mandate for Leadership” document. Media Matters, too. Lots of good work going on digesting this. www.bostonreview.net/articles/ins... www.mediamatters.org/project-2025
Where are the columnists who are experts in specific fields, breaking down what the Heritage Foundation + Trump want to do to each individual federal agency? E.g. I read the section dedicated to our intelligence agencies, and had to stop, since I was starting to feel a little nauseous.
