a little Psycho revisit in honor of the birthday girl 1. The opening music is always much faster than I remember. 2. She's billed as Pat, not Patricia. 3. We need to make December 11 a national holiday like June 27. 4. "Are you unhappy?" "Not inordinately." 🔥
Happy Pat Hitchcock's birthday!

Stay the course. Regardless of what pundits and polls say, keep spreading the word about DJT's Project 2025 and how it will negatively impact day to day life. Encourage people to have a voting plan. Take nothing for granted. (And hope that UK and France are leading the way.)

You don’t even have to like Kamala Harris to know how “let’s build a Rube Goldberg device to avoid nominating the person who was literally elected to step in for the president if necessary” would look
look - I'm receptive to both "no, it's gotta be him" arguments and "he's gotta step aside" arguments. not to be wishy-washy but both arguments have merit. "then we do a tourney" is OTOH flatly hilarious. yeah that'll go great. there will much much unity in the wake of the electoral deathmatch

To save democracy, the Democratic party may resort to deploying the greatest concept of all time: a political version of the NBA In-Season Tournament

BREAKING NEWS: Voters turned out in numbers not seen in decades to stop the far-right National Rally from taking power in the French National Assembly. Polls predicted a first-place finish for National Rally, which instead came in third in initial results as polling stations closed.

Pointing again at my US Blue State Challenge. If you live in a "blue state", pick the red state you hate the most and the issue you care about the most and find a group in that state working on that issue and support them.
One thing I don’t understand is why, when people are outraged by some injustice or affront — like book bans — they don’t first look to see who is already tracking the issue, who’s already working on education + organization. “We need to do something!” People *are*. Find them. Help them.

Fascinating study in contrasts between two virtually identical posts made at the same time. I have a little under 6k followers on BlueSky and 66k on Elon’s Twitter/X. And yet…

So a thing about AI is that, not understanding the material itself, it cannot understand what the gap is in someone else’s understanding. Students already have access to materials that will repeat important points over and over. They don’t need more.

I have never read one of these "we need a party for the politically homeless" pieces that does not go on to straightforwardly describe Democrats.

the funny thing is theres a straight forward argument for every leftist ideology, except i guess accelerationism if you count, for voting whatever message people think they’re sending dems by not voting, the only one dems receive is “i don’t vote” and by extension ignore their policy preferences

Can't kick Black folks out of higher ed entirely, not legally, but you can keep Black professorsfrom getting tenure at white schools and you can make HBCUs all taught by AI, which also gives Black folks an inferior education. & just like that Brown v Board of Education is rendered meaningless!!!!!

I will bang this drum forever: in THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE FREE: THE GERMANS, 1933-45 Milton Mayer interviewed 10 ordinary Germans after WW2 to learn how fascism took hold. There was never a moment when everyone woke up:
if you’re waiting for everyone around you to wake up, you’ll wait forever. this is how the people grinding our bones to make their bread WANT you to be. paralyzed, alienated & purposeless

I keep thinking about how the SCOTUS justices, who have proven they care a TON about their media coverage, issued the worst decision since Dredd Scott and then got to happily watch outlets spend the next week running 10,000 “Biden in Trouble” stories and like 5 “Hm, Immunity is Interesting” stories

Here's what really drives me nuts about this. Of all of the things the press could critique Biden for (and they've got some options!) they're focusing on perhaps the only thing that DOESN'T DISTINGUISH HIM FROM TRUMP! They're both old dudes, worn out by a presidential term, & starting to show it!
It is so fucking weird to watch the press "but her emails" again.
