So here we have a GOP gubernatorial nominee calling for followers to kill people who he claims are enemies of Christian America. How many chin-stroking pieces are we going to see about how the GOP is in real trouble now that one of its candidate is really ol--I mean violent?
I've written for years about the Christian right's calls for "spiritual warfare" against demonic enemies of Christian America. They used to claim their struggle is against "powers and principalities" not "flesh and blood," citing Ephesians 6:12. But it was still dangerous. Now we see how.

Why I Don't Vote (OK, I Do Vote, but I Would Like to Discourage You, NY Times Reader, For Doing So For Some Reason) Via @bubbaprog.ilovecitr.us
Man, if it turns out that the right winger telling NY Times readers that they should follow his example and not vote did in fact vote in the last two elections, the Times should add this to the piece. Better than a retraction, since it illustrates a willful hypocrisy.

It’s a smart piece if you understand it as affording them plausible deniability for running a call for fascism.
The NYT editors who greenlit a "Why I don't vote" essay (no link deserved) by a fascism-jealous theocrat to run on July 4th should be fired. That piece, which I immediately felt stupider for having read, made no useful points and only flaunted a privileged author's indifference from circumstances.

Can someone check if the guy who writes for the Federalist, Washington Free Beacon, and National Review printed stories telling those readers not to vote?

Trump Amplifies Calls to Jail Top Elected Officials, Invokes Military Tribunalswww.nytimes.com A post that Mr. Trump circulated on Sunday called for Liz Cheney to be prosecuted by a military court reserved for enemy combatants and war criminals.

Watching The Bear S3 and....way too much directing, not nearly enough writing. This was a good show until it started to believe it was a great one. Now it just feels pokey and self-important, sort of as if a great sandwich shop decided to turn into tedious fine dining.

"Gretchen Whitmer, Raphael Warnock, Josh Shapiro, and Wes Moore are just a few of the office-holders who could energize Democrats and independents, inspire younger voters, and beat Trump." David Remnick, who I've admired, left out the @VP. He can have a seat with Nader.

Congrats to all the profs at elite law schools who loudly vouched for John Roberts and Neil Gorsuch when they were nominated. Hope you placed your students in some nice clerkships.

The Supreme Court’s ruling putting presidents above the law must be understood not simply as a grant of immunity for past crimes, but an enthusiastic endorsement of those he will commit if given the chance. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

We probably ought to have a conversation about a partisan court declaring Trump above the rule of law that is at least as intense as the one we've had about Joe Biden being very old.

The reason pundits like the contested convention thing is that it plays to their vanities: what if the smart people made a meritocratic decision about who’s best? This is driven, in part, by being mostly isolated from negative reactions to their opinions over the years.

To those wishing for some white (literally) knight to come riding in to save the Democratic White House, if Kamala Harris is passed over, then the people who are necessary to win this election--Black voters & immigrants among them--will stay home. So not so quick. Read @jbouie.bsky.social
there is no world in which biden drops out and the nominee isn’t kamala harris. and i think it is very interesting that the loudest calls for biden to drop out do not acknowledge this fact.

Not sure I can watch this debate. It's a really great man, with his flaws, having to have lies and filth spewed upon him by a really evil man. It's like watching a kind of torture.

When I send an invoice to Harlan Crow after each decision, we leave a space at the bottom for optional gratuities. He's not forced to do anything, but we always appreciate it when he does
Nice deck-stacking by the Supreme Court majority here: "While American law generally treats bribes as inherently corrupt and unlawful, the law’s treatment of gratuities is more nuanced. Some gratuities might be innocuous, and others may raise ethical and appearance concerns."

if, for example, your theory is that this turn is a natural reaction to the monopolization of the economy, then why did this only take place among white and not black residents of rural counties?
