Democracy is like exercise. You can't do it once every four years and complain when you don't see results.

Last month I dropped my second camera body at 3:00 a.m. attempting some astrophotography. It broke and cost $400 to repair. Today I took the shot with it. Totally worth it. 🐬

Also worth noting a common theme: strategic voting/unifying behind a single candidate to defeat a candidate you both don't want to win, a normal democratic practice, being redefined as "cheating," "dirty tricks," "collusion," "a coup"... thus justifying actual cheating/dirty tricks/collusion/coups.
The far right cope machine is already trying to manufacture a narrative about the massive loss the French fascists faced today. They are scared they can sense what’s coming to America and it’s not fascism. Popular fronts win and scare fascists. Keep them on the back foot they are weak and scared.

(Also and to belabor the point, much of what's proposed in Project 2025 would be new information to a huge number of Americans who have tuned a lot of this out, in much the way that Roe v Wade being overturned was a huge shocker to many despite being preordained for years beforehand)

"It's nothing new, they're just putting it all together in a detailed road map as to how they'll use federal power to make it a reality at a time when they control the courts and are led by a major politician with a cult following who rejects any effort to limit his power" is not a comforting notion
I don't get it when people point out that Project 2025 is "nothing new." Yes, obviously, right-wingers have been fanatics for decades. They were blowing up abortion clinics and shooting doctors when I was a kid. But, as you may have noticed, their political vision has kind of been coming together.

It's really remarkable and horrifying just how little we seemed to have learned

a dead giveaway that project 2025 was written specifically for—and with input from—trump:

If you care about criminal system reform, Project 2025 would allow the DOJ to prosecute reform-minded district attorneys.

Highly recommend both this and the collection I first read it in, A People’s Future of the United States
In a future divided America, a lone bookstore straddles the border between two new nations. But it's getting harder to avoid choosing a side. My story "The Bookstore at the End of America" just got a beautiful audio adaptation from Cast of Wonders: www.castofwonders.org/2024/07/cast...
Cast of Wonders 593: The Bookstore at the End of America | Cast of Wonderswww.castofwonders.org A bookshop on a hill. Two front doors, two walkways lined with blank slates and grass, two identical signs welcoming customers to the First and Last Page, and a great blue building in the middle…

Ugh I wrote about this back in January: “There’s something particularly cruel about a decision to willfully deprive millions of parents the comfort of knowing that their child won’t go to bed hungry.”
The governors of a dozen Republican-led states — AL, AK, FL, GA, IA, MS, OK, SC, SD, TX, UT, WY — opted out of a new federal food assistance program, leaving about 9.5 million students without the aid this summer
Republican-led states are blocking summer food benefits for hungry familieswww.usatoday.com Money for food is especially tight for families in a dozen states where Republican lawmakers declined to accept federal food assistance.
Opinion | These Republican governors chose to let some kids go hungry this summerwww.msnbc.com The GOP rejection of funding for the Summer EBT program will effect an estimated 8 million school-age children.

I don’t make much of a living, but I’m far more accurate than many who are highly paid in the field. This fact depresses me constantly.

Trump’s new Big Lie that he doesn’t know about Project 2025 might take him downwww.inquirer.com Republicans are in a state of panic now that voters are paying attention to Project 2025, their plan for dictatorship. They should be.
