That's... that's not how it works. Congress has to be in session in order to file anything, and one member of the minority party is not able to force Congress to be in session by herself.
I know, but my feelings made me say it.
Well, Biden, the current king, should abolish it. Just get rid of the 2 houses, and just have 11 good bootlicker friends.
She forgot that the House is controlled by the R's. Speaker Johnson tried to have the votes of PA, GA, MI and WI void in 2020. But let's say she has her way and they Impeach a justice. She would still need 67 Senators to vote guilty. McConnell will never give a SCOTUS pick to Biden.
It's my premise, with the advent of the internet and worldwide communication among the masses, the days of oligarchs and billionaires are numbered.
They know it. There will come a time when the masses will make the storming of the Bastille look like a skirmish.
It really leaves the door wide open to "let's see how many assumed norms the Prez can violate." And Trump, maybe you've heard, is, uh, not so much known for his adherence to norms. Not to mention there's so much willful ambiguity in the term "official duties."
Filing articles of impeachment is more than just theatrics it’s employing concrete procedural means to fix the problem which is what a lot more people in power should be doing.
Imagine if this a business and there was an incident threatening the loss of the business, and the business owner said, we will do what we can when our vacation is over
Reminds me of all of the enthusiastic nothing that was proposed back in the Trump years. You can tell when Dems are really losing, they start trying to look like they're actually attempting to do something.
Is this going to be like the time they tried to impeach the president for being blatantly corrupt only for Congress to shoot down the attempt, or the second time they tried it and got the same outcome?
I have much love for @aoc.bsky.social but I think trying to impeach any of SCOTUS at this point is an empty gesture, would quickly be seen as one, and would probably net out as counterproductive.
You wanna do it right? Win the election in November, THEN do the impeaching.
Yes. Samuel Chase was impeached in 1804 (though acquitted by the Senate). However that case was quite partisan, and his acquittal is thought to have helped establish the concept of a politically independent judiciary (lol)
