I think this part of it but I feel a bigger part is that masks remind us of vulnerability and collective action and the failure of our institutions to step up for us, and the people in charge *really* want us to sink back into complacency, apathy, and despair instead of pushing for change
I really believe the increase in anti-masking we’re seeing across different political levels is tied to a desire to make things easier for the police surveillance state. To me, it’s the only thing that explains the shift from understanding masks keep us safe when dealing with respiratory illness.

the thing about people who explicitly tell you not to vote is that they are absolutely going to vote

If you care about the USA, the single best thing you can do today is to contribute to a downticket race thats close. The second best thing you can do is cancel your NYT subscription and use that money for the purpose.

I’m not the first to say this, and I know in theory you don’t want to throw the baby out with the bath water, but y’all have seriously got to consider just not supporting the NYT even a little bit. I know old habits die hard, but they aren’t your ally.

Mark my words: someone from the NYT or one of its bootlicking stans is going to counter all the fact checking of that Walther guy by arguing that because it was an opinion piece, it doesn’t matter & the NYT didn’t need to verify anything about him.
One thing about the “Why I don’t vote” guy that may be especially interesting to journalists from the Washington Post and other outlets is that according to the public Michigan voter file, apparently he does vote

If you don’t see them, you hear them. On any July Fourth or New Year’s Eve, it’s common to experience the loud pop of a firework or see it colorfully explode into the sky and hang there briefly.

this may be hard to fathom but john roberts does not believe a single word of that opinion.
John Roberts must be the most neurotypical person in existence because the immunity ruling reads like someone who has never had a single “but what if…???” anxiety spiral in his life

putting handwashing into “core” and masking into “additional” even tho medical science fixed the error that led to thinking these aren’t airborne is one of those situations where i’m feeling gaslit by the rest of humanity: they are airborne! i’m not imagining this! i know you know this, cdc!
However, the CDC continues to go out of its way to stigmatize masks, not listing it in its core prevention strategies for respiratory viruses, and calling it an “additional” prevention strategy instead.

Today is a good day to remind folks that Woody Guthrie was an antifascist comrade. This Land is Your Land was actually a diss song in response to God Bless America by Irving Berlin.

honestly hate that every time there's an industry bad actor, lists of "works by marginalized authors to support instead" start circulating like it's a moral obligation to be done out of guilt, & it's crickets every other day of the year. my art is not to be taken in as a reactionary measure

This is a funny post, but you shouldn’t be able to find out who blocked you. That’s actually a safety issue in some instances. The people who’d try to circumvent a block to keep accessing your posts/talking to you are the same ones who’s harass you for blocking them in the first place.
I appreciate that you have the ability to find out who blocked you on this site, and when they did it, down to the hour, but no ability to search your posts by time stamp, so you'll know that you were incredibly irritating to someone on, like, April 23rd, but you have no way to know how you did it.

Except that conservatives in general — and American conservatives in particular — never assume or believe their hideous policies will be applied to them. They only ever think about sticking it to the people they hate — right up until that doesn’t happen. Then it’s tears about how they were “duped.”

Hey as someone who was very thoroughly "investigated" as a kid I am telling you that the goal of this is to make queer kids kill themselves, or stop caring about living enough to let something else do the job. I had to quit high school to stop myself from doing a lot of bad stuff to myself.
stories like this give the lie to the idea that the right is interested in protecting these children. per their own narrative, this girl is a victim of “gender ideology” or whatever. but the reaction from the right is always hostility, ostracization and violence.

If you're asking "when did The Boys get woke" or "when did Star Wars get woke" or "when did Star Trek get woke" or "when did Doctor Who get woke" or "when did X-Men get woke" it might be time to face facts: you don't have the basic mental capacity to be able to handle watching TV or movies.

Back on my #NirvanaInFire bullshit** b/c I watched parts of Ep 2 for reasons and I love how Gao Zhan watches out for Prince Jing from jump, even before Jingyan begins his rise. When the Emperor forgets that Jingyan has been waiting outside for _hours_ to speak to him, it’s Gao Zhan who reminds him.
