They don't know what they fuck they're doing. They're just reacting. Most of these people demonstrably don't know shit and I don't think they're fit to run a corner store.
I think I am modestly pro Biden dropping out in favor of Harris but if this is the shit they have planned then Biden needs to stay put because this will be a disaster.

The fact they played a video of a guy making monkey sounds at Black people at the fucking convention to hype up the crowd not being front page news across the nation is proof not one of those publications deserves to exist

Trump sounds like my dad did 3 years ago when the Alzheimer’s aphasia hadn’t yet made him 100% incoherent but the paranoia was kicking hard & the boundaries between imagined stories & memory were blurring.

If they all collectively just shut the fuck up and worked towards an important goal they are afraid of failing to achieve, they might surprise themselves, but this pissing the pants and wanting to give up because the fight looks tough and you overvalue bad opinions does not work. They're cowards.

Yup. Anarchists, too. We know what the rules parties do & this ain’t it. Not playing by your own rules is cringe obvious. esp. coming from people who think anarchy means “no rules.”
Every leftists I know: It should be Kamala today fuck it I don't like her but fuck it she can win against this old fascist bitch. Every democrat with power: 16 round tournament, 3 wild card play-ins, cumulative points against total, winner determined on November 10th.

I suppose I am probably the Median Democrat in a lot of ways and while I object to a lot of stuff Biden has done, I am pretty fundamentally fucked off at the party’s donors trying to shove him out last minute in favor of somebody almost certainly less progressive on a bunch of important issues

You had me at actually mentioning “massive resistance” as context.
"Mays’ unmatched skills—and the unaffected, nearly childlike exuberance he brought to the game of baseball—quickly won a multitude of white fans, even in the South where I grew up amid angry calls for ‘massive resistance’ to school desegregation." www.zocalopublicsquare.org/2024/07/18/t...

I've seen a lot of one-offs of people holding these signs, but what is truly chilling is a sea of these being held up by delegates.
In case you missed it this was one of the official signs handed out by the RNC for delegates to wave. Not a joke, not a.i.

This the most Newhart-Pryor interchange possible.
...Richard Pryor told Newhart he had stolen a copy of “The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart.” Newhart thought Pryor meant he had stolen a routine. "No, I stole your record — from a record store in Peoria, Illinois.” “Richard, I used to get a quarter an album.” Pryor handed Mr. Newhart a quarter.

All the calls for “everyone” to “cool down the rhetoric” etc feel like how families so often put the burden of keeping the peace on the family members who are already working hardest at that, since the difficult/abusive folks are unfixable/cannot be reasoned with.

I predicted about 6 years ago that the attempt on his life would come from the far right, but I’m a humble librarian & only told my spouse so I have no claim to bragging rights.

Every time they lose, they become more certain they have to shift to the right to win.
Just saw someone post that they want Biden to lose by a landslide in order to force the Democratic Party to change What year is it? Because I've seen this same argument against Clinton in 2016 and Gore in 2000 A huge loss WOULD change the party, but probably not in good ways

If anyone ever asks why Boston was behind the curve with bike infrastructure for so long, here’s your answer. He lived here. And went to every bike lane infrastructure meeting to argue against it. With his friends. And raided every online discussion. With his friends.
Yes, Forester advanced the philosophy that cyclists don't need bike lanes and mostly need to act like cars. He had a fair amount of influence that prevented/delayed the installation of the kind of infrastructure that would have led to cycling becoming a more mainstream transportation option.

The press reveled in Trump’s behavior! New headlines daily! The news wrote itself & got eyes on pages hate-reading. IOW Trump was a gold mine for the press.
The discourse around biden needing more sleep is fully insane. Does no one remember "Executive Time," the thing Trump spent the majority(!) of his schedule on where he would just watch TV and tweet? Dude was categorically unable to fulfill any of the demands of the office and the press barely cared

Trump claims he disapproves of the 2025 Project and of course he never lies so I’m sure we don’t have to worry about any of this platform.

I’d wager $100 that the word “abysmal” doesn’t appear once in any transcripts of his speeches. IOW, his handlers are writing for him because he’s incapable.
Huh

Biden's age and poor debate showing is obviously a legit story, but what we've seen over the last week is a hysterical feeding frenzy aimed at some combination of self-vindication, settling old scores, claiming a scalp, and the desire of some in the media to have Trump back in power. (1/2)

It’s maddening to see skepticism of ejecting Biden treated like cultish loyalty. Some of us have been out here saying Biden’s too old for years. The problem is that what is being proposed is a shocking, almost unheard-of remedy, and every historic precedent tells us it’ll end in catastrophe.

Jesus. Automated enforcement advocates really underestimate the potential for abuse with these cameras. The amount of information they collect is staggering, as is the ability to piece it all together to meticulously track individual people. reason.com/2024/07/01/s...

The Democratic Party’s reaction to their candidate having a bad debate substantially outpaces the Republican Party’s reaction to their candidate being convicted of multiple felonies, held liable for rape, and owing judgments in the hundreds of millions for defamation and fraud.

ChatGPT already has “Ph.D.-level intelligence,” in that once you remove it from its extremely narrow field of expertise (assembling words into credible-sounding passages) it is wildly out of its depth, but people vastly overestimate its authority because they don’t understand what “intelligence” is.

Maybe not controversial among librarians, but as a former writing teacher & current librarian: the trad way of teaching writing as a skill separate from substantiating claims has made it ok to make unsubstantiated claims as long as its done artfully (subtweeting editorials). 📚

They're not gonna deport 20 million people. They're gonna deport the labor organizers, the guys who ask for raises, the guys who leave the pork processing plant to get a better job elsewhere. Our agriculture sector runs on immigrant labor and draconian immigration laws are about giving bosses power

Humans are failing to administer the Turing test.
In a recent study researchers claim GPT-4 passed the Turing Test (it is able to fool a human into thinking they are talking to a person). I think they've less proven a conversation with a computer is indistinguishable from a human than they've proven in 2024 people are dumber than they were in 1950.
