Please note the wildly incorrect polling in France. No matter what the cacophony of pundits keep saying, polls are not predictive, and are never the end of the story. Organizing, volunteering, engaging in conversation, and direct action are effective tools. Let's use them here too.
BREAKING NEWS: Voters turned out in numbers not seen in decades to stop the far-right National Rally from taking power in the French National Assembly. Polls predicted a first-place finish for National Rally, which instead came in third in initial results as polling stations closed.

It would be super cool if the tech media would simply stop credulously repeating every value-juicing statement C-Suites make like they’re the in-house PR department. The only difference between these hollow promises and the guy crying, “The end is near!” on the street corner is funding.

But definitely withholding a vote for Biden will Teach Dems an Important Lesson.
I somehow totally missed this NYmag story about Miriam Adelson's price tag for supporting cash-strapped Trump: Support for West Bank annexation. And it sounds like she might get her asking price. nymag.com/intelligence...

No other nation has ever prosecuted a former leader, except for about half of them, so you can see why this is so outrageous.

As far as I'm concerned, Rian Johnson and Daniel Craig can keep making Benoit Blanc Mysteries until he's up there with Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot, you know? We need at least 5 of these. 8 to 10 would be divine.

If more software people had a background in philosophy, not only would we have far fewer tech-caused social problems, but we'd also have far better and more capable systems.

I work on climate professionally. Django is right.
Look. I care about climate change a lot. I'm close to a single-issue voter on the subject! But we have GOT to stop worrying about what are, in the scheme of things, rounding errors. I hate, hate, hate this kind of personal-responsibility climate stuff, it's deeply counterproductive.

People who were repeatedly vaccinated for COVID-19 — initially receiving shots aimed at the original variant, followed by boosters and updated vaccines targeting variants — generated antibodies capable of neutralizing a wide range of SARS-CoV-2 variants and even some distantly related coronaviruses.

There's a comic where the Joker can resist Wonder Woman's lasso because his troubled mind has no concept of true or false. It's the same with ChatGPT.
Your occasional reminder that ChatGPT and its brethren not only don’t fact check, but have no cognitive existence. Truth and falsehood play zero part in the output. These are bullshit engines.

as an atheist, the advent of religion has always confounded me, but after seeing tech bros turn relatively conceptually-simple linear algebra into a religion: i get it now.

He's right. "Originalism" is about stringing together a collection of words to support a predetermined outcome. There's no need for fidelity to facts, reliable description of source material, nor even logical consistency. It's one of the few tasks large language models could do.
New: Trump-appointed Judge John Bush of the 6th Circuit today in a speech to a Federalist Society chapter laid out a vision for how future AI technology could make it even easier for originalist judges to support rulings based on "history and tradition."
Conservative US judge says AI could strengthen 'originalist' movementwww.reuters.com A conservative federal appeals court judge on Monday said future developments in artificial intelligence could revolutionize how judges like himself tie their rulings to the past by interpreting the U.S. Constitution based on the nation's history and tradition.

If the Supreme Court decides in favor of Trump’s claim that a sitting president has immunity from prosecution, the logical and legal thing for Biden to do would be to simply assassinate him before the election

So... the Am/Ca Hugo admins, lacking an understanding of Chinese authoritarianism, applied *American* authoritarianism -- targeting marginalized identities first, trying to censor on content but doing it wrong bc of their own ignorance, then laying the blame on other people. Do I have that right?
