let this serve as my occasional reminder that even if you think the NYT is consistently outstanding, subscribing to the times to "support journalism" is like giving Harvard thirty bucks to "support education." They don't need your money. Small outlets & independent journalists do.
WaPo and NYT subscriptions gone. 😕As someone who has spent the last 15 years begging people to subscribe to newspapers, it was so hard to pull the trigger. But gonna subscribe to more newsletters and independent outlets. I hope WaPo and NYT earn my subscription back some day.

He did have one of the all-time political jokes though: Adlai Stevenson once responded to a supporter who shouted, “You are the candidate for all right-thinking* people” with “Thank you ma’am, but I need a majority to win.” *right refers to correctness, not political orientation

The NYT Parkinson's "scoop" is even worse than it seems from the headline, bc buried in paragraph 11 the reporters *know* Dr. Connard met with someone other than Biden, and on March 28, 2024 the President's Public Schedule shows Biden was in NYC the whole day
Breaking News: A Parkinson’s expert visited the White House eight times in eight months from last summer through this spring, according to official visitor logs. The administration has said that President Biden has no signs of the disease.

still can't believe the sensible center spent 9 months saying 'don't criticize biden over gaza or the bad orange man wins' and now they're all trying to trick him into going to the Theatre of Pompey they still love what's happening in gaza, of course

It is a deeply held belief of mine that if MTV went back to just showing videos most of the time, with some music-based shows mixed in, it would become a hit again
Is there a media brand that lost more value over the last 25 years than MTV/VH1? Most media conglomerates would kill to have a brand associated with hip youth culture, and Viacom strip mined it with two decades of reality TV dreck and now it's gone bsky.app/profile/cast...

Worth noting the EPA's brief correctly uses "nitrogen oxide" 7 times, and the EPA submitted a declaration from an official who used it twice. But nobody involved in the majority opinion, Justices and clerks, bothered to take the EPA's brief seriously, and so none of them noticed the error.
Still marveling at Gorsuch's Ohio v. EPA opinion, in which he confused nitrogen oxide (a pollutant) with nitrous oxide (laughing gas). He did this five times, never once getting it right—in an opinion overruling the EPA's own expert scientific analysis! s3.documentcloud.org/documents/24...

It's barely being covered in North Carolina. Tons of news with the "will Biden drop out" discourse. Almost no "Robinson is a far-right crackpot."
In a normal campaign, this would have dominated the weekend’s news. I wrote about @gregsargent.bsky.social’s scoop about the Christian nationalist GOP nominee for NC Gov calling for murder of his political enemies: ‘Some folks need killing’: www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnb...
Opinion | ‘Some folks need killing’: North Carolina Lt. Gov takes Christian nationalism to dangerous lowwww.msnbc.com Mark Robinson’s newly explicit calls for killing perceived enemies show how seamlessly Christian nationalists can glide into promoting real violence.

Prioritizing one of these stories and not the other is a decision made by actual people, not "mounting concerns"

could be much worse though: in the Before Times, when the office was crowded, I had to listen to a colleague describe his prostate infection.

I'll say more about this in my newsletter today but the "tempers flare" narrative on supposed acrimony between Trump and anti-abortion GOPers is not a secret fight that the press has exposed. It's a performance meant to reassure anti-abortion voters that Trump will do what they want.
Tempers flare as Trump reviews revised abortion plank for Republican platformwww.washingtonpost.com The former president wants the platform to endorse leaving the issue to the states rather than a federal ban in the wake of Roe v. Wade’s demise.

Okay, sure the NYT may have stumbled with their 'China and Fauci frankensteined up the pandemic' stuff, but recall they've done such a phenomenal job with Clinton's email server, trans people, Maxine Gay's 'plagiarism', shoplifting, policing, and the economy, can't we just call it a one off mistake?
