Seriously, this /needs/ to be The Message. "A Republican voter did the violence the GOP has been stirring up with their messaging and rhetoric and laws; they're getting more extreme and this is what we can expect with future GOP leadership."

If Democrats don't jump all over "the shooter was a registered Republican; this kind of violence is what the GOP creates with their rhetoric and what they want more of" I will scream. TBH already planning a drive to the middle of nowhere for that scream because we all know the Dems.

Folks, I may have a PhD in history-including US politics history-but the last several years I’ve been working in public health as a science writer. One of my areas of focus is Aging, including Alzheimer’s and related dementias (AD/RD). I find the discourse around Biden really troubling.

Inside Out 2 might be the best film about mental health that I’ve seen- certainly top 3. Highly, highly recommended.

I don't want some egghead bureaucrat telling me whether there's poison in the water I drink. Ideally I'd want that decided by a 29yo judge who went to a "biblical law school" and does not believe dinosaurs existed, and then to have that decision reaffirmed six years later by the Supreme Court.

For my fellow long suffering M’s fans- this sadly encapsulates the experience very well.

This is exactly right. They perceive their own (and their benefactors’) immense power and privilege as entirely earned, and others’ misfortune must be a result of some essential character deficiency, rather than circumstance.

The right wing majority on scotus legalizes bribery and criminalizes homelessness because to them, rich people deserve rights and poor people deserve nothing. If they were deserving they’d be rich.

Exactly this.

LLMs are useless for lawyering and other tasks involving actual analysis and understanding not because the technology hasn't gotten there yet, but because that's fundamentally not what statistical word association is capable of doing. Not only can't it understand, it's not even trying to understand.

Seattle is only “affordable” for those folks pulling down seven figures per year. I’d say “do better, NYT” but sadly this is pretty on brand for them right now.
