Trump at a campaign rally in March in Ohio, Vance’s state: “If we don't win this election, I don't think you're going to have another election in this country. If I don't get elected, it's going to be a bloodbath for the whole country."

When I condemn political violence I am also condemning a Trump candidacy.

The B in "Benoit B. Mandelbrot" is short for "Benoit B. Mandelbrot".
Another little known fact: the H in Jesus H. Christ stands for Helen.

Declaring people to be vermin, enemies of the state, or un-human is the sort of language people adopt before they pursue a genocide.
“We will hold investigations to identify the neo-cultural Marxists in seats of power all across Washington,” Posobiec said. “We don’t negotiate with un-humans. Because that’s the stakes of this battle: humanity versus un-humanity.” inthesetimes.com/article/nati...

Holman was also the chief architect and proponent of parent-child separation, specifically as a punitive deterrent for illegal border crossings
Full quote from ex-ICE director Tom Homan: "Trump comes back in January... I will run the biggest deportation force this country has ever seen. They ain’t seen shit yet. Wait until 2025.” Tonight in Florida Trump pledged to bring Homan back. Homan, BTW, is a listed Project 2025 contributor.

Still marveling at Gorsuch's Ohio v. EPA opinion, in which he confused nitrogen oxide (a pollutant) with nitrous oxide (laughing gas). He did this five times, never once getting it right—in an opinion overruling the EPA's own expert scientific analysis! s3.documentcloud.org/documents/24...

It pretty much can’t be. A nakedly criminal president using the official levers of power isn’t a hypothetical, even excluding Trump. And they still gut shot democracy anyways.
so is US v Nixon still good law

The Republican platform walks back extremist policies on abortion and gay marriage, but affirms Trump’s promise to deport 12 million people, or three percent of the population. This is their priority, and it’s going to be horrific.

at some point in your life you will have to accept that your “hotshot loose cannon who gets results” days are over and you’ve moved into “coming out of retirement for one last job” territory

This!! Start with “they want to end no fault divorce, sell national parks, and ban porn” end with tax structure.
tom nichols—of all people???—just made a good point: you have to talk about P2025 in simple real people terms. not policy wonk terms.

Man, if it turns out that the right winger telling NY Times readers that they should follow his example and not vote did in fact vote in the last two elections, the Times should add this to the piece. Better than a retraction, since it illustrates a willful hypocrisy.
He voted in both 2020 and 2022.

With my heart among those subject to enslavement under the 13th, threatened with arrest after Grant’s Pass, or who cling to life amid American bombs dropping all around them…May liberty and peace be our true North Star, and not just our creed.

If you have reached the end of this thread then it has taken you 5mins to read. This is the same amount of time that it took for all of this to happen. 5mins for Hancock to redress his lines. 5mins for the First Minnesota to die. 5mins, to help win a battle. 5mins to save a nation. /12

2nd July 1863. Battle of Gettysburg. For perhaps the only time in the entire war the Confederates seem to be winning. Dan Sickles, commander III Corps, is ordered hold on Cemetery Ridge. For reasons unknown he advances. Broken, his men begin to flee. This is the moment on which the war depends /1

Today is July 2nd. 161 years ago, the Minnesota First Volunteer Infantry was nearly annihilated at Gettysburg. I post every year. But this one feels different.

I hate capitalism. I hate Joe Biden. But tell me how it's not me and my people that wind up completely fucked under a right-wing administration if we all choose to opt out. Tell me what to do.

I just want to beg people to tell me what happens when we completely give up on the electoral system. Tell me what you imagine happening. I want to be able to see it. Tell me how it doesn't involve things getting so much worse, millions dying, before there's any chance of something better.

Hard not to read this decision as a clear sign that ordering a drone strike on Roberts, et al would be an official act of the commander in chief and unreviewable. How utterly fucked.

Not that anyone particularly cares about original meaning, but think folks should still say it out loud: For all of the things that are unclear in the founding documents and unknowabilities of what the Founders intended, "the President can kill anyone or commit a coup" was *never* legally arguable

as the queer community has always shown, it can be a revolutionary act to find reasons to be joyful when the goal of your opposition is to demoralize you. i'm struggling with that right now but it's something to keep in mind.

i know it might not seem like it, but the working class has *a lot* of power even now. the thing with laws is that they are a social contract we all agree to instead of outright violence & militarism. if you pass unjust laws, it doesn’t mean you win. it means you are weakening your right to rule.

Minnesota is such a good example of how much we can do from the inside. We’re making real, material change in people’s lives. Free lunches, climate action, getting close to ending youth homelessness.

I’m never going to say that voting is the path to our liberation. But if we don’t want to sacrifice a tremendous amount of Black, brown, Indigenous, queer, trans, and poor people, we HAVE to have both inside AND outside strategies. The system is fucked up. But we cannot concede it.
This is why you can’t change the system from the inside

Voting is defense. Organizing is offense. Gotta have both.

Was really starting to wonder what Frey and Barnette’s game was. Duh. It was money for cops. Fund the broken by stealing from the promising.
4-To cover the proposed $9 million in raises for MPD, Mayor Frey has proposed defunding community safety by cutting transit safety, hate crime prevention and other public safety workers doing crucial work to keep our communities safe. This is a non-starter for me.

there are a lot of ways for the state to suppress dissident speech. one particularly bad one is by having armed agents of the state stand by and do nothing while partisan-aligned thugs or paramilitary groups beat you because of your speech, and then have the DA decline to prosecute the assaulters.
