(And with authors at least, if you can't afford their work, you can just get it from a library, which is good for you (the book itself is no additional cost!), good for the author (libraries pay for books!), and good for the library (they're being used and justifying their budgets!). It is more anti-capitalist to buy directly from musicians and writers and farmers than to steal and pirate or go to the grocery chain or shop on amazon. Make choices that build solidarity. Stop ruining relationships with people who would otherwise agree with you but now won't support you at all.

There is never any shame in using the library, and much benefit in doing so. They are the closest thing to an unmitigated social good that we have in these United States, which is why the hard right is gunning so fervently for them these days. A world without libraries and librarians is a poor one.

My book-buying budget is not what it once was, which is precisely why I’m using the library more. It also gives me the opportunity to read books that I’m not sure I want to add to the home library (not that there’s a lot of room to do that anyway).

Went to a Toledo Mud Hens game on July 3rd, followed by amazing fireworks/concert. Thanks, Klinger!

Now that people are starting to be aware of the right wing horrors in Project 2025, Facebook, Instagram and Threads have started tagging posts about it as “partly false information,” citing right wing propaganda site The Dispatch as a “fact checker.”

Went to visit the Serpent Mound. It was huge and amazing and very difficult to take decent photos of. A pilgrimage to a sacred space indeed.

Junior Scholars: Project 2025 is now breaking through to public consciousness. The more people learn about it, the more they hate it. Now is a great time to search that website, go to the section of your expertise, and write an oped. Keep the drip of bad news for them coming, all the way to Nov.
