I'm a former professional captioner/subtitler in the UK and we did the same clean up. We even used to joke that if you really didn't like someone, you'd quote them absolutely verbatim to make them look bad.

I do captioning for a living, & a big part of my job is cleaning up false starts & filler words. That has always been the norm at every media outlet. Print media edits Trump so carefully that you would never know what he actually sounds like. Doing this to Biden is a 180 from decades of policy.

regardless of what happens with the nomination, i will say this generation of dems--biden, pelosi, shumer, durbin, clyburn--have kindled a deep-seated hatred in me for them and their leadership, which is quite a feat given that i'm a lifelong dem who's voted, volunteered, and donated for 24 years

i think it’s just a reminder of how insufficient he is. if you’re on the fence and asking yourself “is this a guy I’m going to go to bat for right now?” and see this shit, it might just break your resolve
