Disgusting
The governors of a dozen Republican-led states — AL, AK, FL, GA, IA, MS, OK, SC, SD, TX, UT, WY — opted out of a new federal food assistance program, leaving about 9.5 million students without the aid this summer

I mean…this is not wrong.
Joe Biden refusing to take advice from people who have been wrong about everything for decades could be seen as an indication his brain is still working

At the risk of being tiresome in reposting my own writings on the separation of powers and executive accountability, since prominent scholars are now in the news saying "habeas corpus will still be OK"— Montesquieu's insight was precisely that it won't be. dx.doi.org/10.13140/RG....

Honestly still in shock that the most crooked American President in history said "I need immunity" and the GOP Supreme Court said "well, it's nowhere in the constitution, but sure, why not? Whats the worst that could happen?"

Could they just do fucking something
a funny thing Biden could do, unitary-executive-authority-wise is just order GSA to stop cutting paychecks to a bunch of Republican judges and law clerks for a while.

Which is why the U.S. does in fact have a tremendous amount of leverage over its biggest recipient of military assistance, and people who said otherwise were whether they intended it or not arguing against the use of that leverage.

Biden should not have promised not to use his new powers. He should instead have closed his remarks by saying, "The Supreme Court made one mistake. They let me live."

The landmark reversal nullifies all previously lawful forms of right and makes it very difficult for Americans to make ethical decisions or be generally decent human beings without facing criminal charges.
Supreme Court Overturns 'Right v. Wrong'www.theonion.com WASHINGTON—Striking down the judicial precedent that established the legal supremacy of right over wrong more than two centuries ago, the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday overturned Right v. Wrong.

a thing to remember, in all of this horror, is that these are not the actions of a political party that is confident it represents the will of the people, and who is currently out of power and enslaved to a deeply flawed avatar. the struggle is not over and they have not won

Let’s fucking go people
The correct response to Chevron being overturned is for every single environmental group to start filing millions of lawsuits, right now, today, arguing that various regulatory decisions didn't go far enough. Absolutely flood the zone.

This is so obvious and should not have to be said and yet…
Biden is too old. But he has surrounded himself with competent people and has had a conventional first term. Trump is authoritarian but inept. He has surrounded himself with people he hopes will make him more effective at authoritarianism. Neither is ideal. But these are not similar problems.

i have largely stopped arguing about this on social media because it isn’t fruitful, but this finding gets to why you should be skeptical of theories that try to sideline or excise race from an explanation of the white rural turn toward reactionary politics news.cornell.edu/stories/2024...
Growing rural-urban divide exists only among white Americans | Cornell Chroniclenews.cornell.edu Researchers have found that when it comes to politics, Black and Latino residents of rural America differ far less, if at all, from their urban counterparts than do non-Hispanic white residents.

I mean…to his credit Friedman has been in this position for awhile. But still, Tom Friedman!
In which Tom Friedman says that Biden and Congress should stop "debasing" themselves on Israel and that Israel should "accept Hamas’s key demand" which is to "totally end the war now and withdraw from Gaza in exchange for the return of all Israeli hostages.".
Opinion | American Leaders Should Stop Debasing Themselves on Israelwww.nytimes.com You have to wonder if American “friends” of Israel have any clue about the nature of Israel’s government.

Seriously though, how to make this happen?
1. Move SCOTUS to rural Nebraska—away from DC social scene, easy to see who comes to see justices, where they fly off to. 2. All judicial education programs are hosted and run—in, like, Hilton Expresses—by the Fed Judicial Center. Private groups can propose/help finance classes, but FJC runs them.
