The "fun" thing about clinical depression is that it's real but it's an excuse even people who think of themselves as soft-hearted "IN THIS HOUSE" liberals won't buy. "So I almost forgot to pay rent because the news triggered a week-long depressive episode" doesn't play well.

FRANCE UPDATE: The near-final list of candidates who are in the French runoffs is out. Two days ago, 311 districts were going to have 3-way or 4-way runoffs. Then, 200+ candidates dropped out to block far-right. So: There'll be "just" 91 such runoffs this coming Sunday.

Thanks to Cathode TV I discovered the 1991 zero-budget, shot-on-video-in-rural-Florida fantasy classic WAY BAD STONE, and it's already on my long list of obsessions.

On the plus side, I did the nerdiest thing I ever did, send a story proposal to a DOCTOR WHO audio play submissions contest, and honestly I have more confidence in this submission than I've had in any fiction I've written in years.

It's just around 80 degrees and my top-floor apartment is already uncomfortably hot except for the area right next to the portable A/C unit even with two fans going. So the coming heat wave is going to be a delight, I can tell.
