This is something that I think the favorability polling misses. People dislike Biden in a general way, but they really hate Trump in a way that they actively do not wish him well. The number doesn't catch the depth of the feeling, and that matters in an election like this.

I think the phenomenon I've really seen is how many regular people had the reaction of wishing a former president had had his brains blown out on live TV. Not freaks or radicals, someone's mom.

Probably my most retweeted post back there was the one that went "I fundamentally believe 'i suffered so you should too' is a shitty way to live. It's morally bad, politically bad, & just bad for your heart."

In researching the next book a trauma expert told me offhandedly she believed most political issues and controversies came down to an argument over whether kids and young people should suffer the same abuse as the previous generation and boy oh boy is that on my mind a lot recently.

Can't make meaningful change if there are no more free elections. And I don't think gambling on whether or not the US experiment could survive another Trump term is worth finding out.

Gotta say, seeing online leftists say that they might consider voting for someone else and that they won’t vote for Biden makes me question if their analysis of the campaign is coming from a good place and accurate, or if they’ve just had their brain cooked by memes.
