The truly memorable through line that runs from Shelley Duvall to Dr. Ruth and Richard Simmons is that all three were utterly unique, break-the-mold outliers who also came off as genuinely authentic people that cared deeply about the rest of humanity.

I saw that they announced Shrek 5 today and that it's coming in July 2026, and it just seemed like the most bizarre thing to me. Like who can even imagine what July 2026 is going to be like and whether the people alive then will be in a place where they want to see Shrek again

Like if you don't have Criterion but want to watch their synth score bill, Tubi has Assault on Precinct 13 (76), Messiah of Evil, Tenebrae, Forbidden Planet, and Next of Kin (82) too.

There are two types of film buffs: Those who rag on Tubi. And those who notice how often Tubi and the Criterion Channel have the same movies. Though Critierion doesn't have V.I.P. but I think that's b/c they don't do TV.

I can't remember his exact wording, but reminds me of something David Graeber said, basically most culture comes from the working class and is appropriated by capitalists, who call it consumption, not culture, and say it comes from them (which I'm sure they think justifies their outrageous salaries)
