honestly hate that every time there's an industry bad actor, lists of "works by marginalized authors to support instead" start circulating like it's a moral obligation to be done out of guilt, & it's crickets every other day of the year. my art is not to be taken in as a reactionary measure

Yesterday, when I visited the Anglo Saxon Church at St. Laurence Bradford on Avon, I couldn’t quite capture how the light play within the chancel made me feel so, instead of the camera, I took out my sketchbook.

Happy Glorious Twenty-Fifth of May to all who celebrate GNU Terry Pratchett, who definitely knew the correct list of priorities in any revolution
A DISCWORLD PRIMER* *or, why should I read this thing that everyone keeps going on about? Come on in, sit down, pull up a chair. If you have followup questions, feel free to ask me or @ankhmorporkcity.watch, we're always happy to help. (1/a lot, idk, we'll figure this out as we go)

Look! A most excellent book! Brilliant characters, a richly imagined world, an intricate net of relationships and dependencies. It's fierce and fun and smart and angry at all the right things. It is also so well paced, and every POV is your favourite when you're in it!
The rebellion begins!! SAVAGE COMPANY is available from @solarisbooks.bsky.social in the UK!! Begin my epic fantasy trilogy about conscripts, false utopia, shadow governments revolution, and super science!! Please share this far and wide!! Buy the book! geni.us/savagecompany

Hey @mattfnwallace.bsky.social I'm reading the Savage Legion books and what is this sorcery? I'm loving all POV's equally and am always excited to get back to whoever's next. Who did you sell your soul to to pull that off? Tell me all your secrets! Happily reccing them to all my book friends.

An excellent read on an extraordinarily driven woman in tech.
A morning boost for the latest in my tech history series over on Every. This part focuses on Lore Harp McGovern of Vector Graphic, one of Silicon Valley's great founders. The role of women in the computing golden age is constantly diminished. That needs to change. every.to/the-crazy-on...

I've finally gotten around to reading Savage Legion and what a joy of a book. Great pacing, wonderful characters, a unique, interesting and absolutely infuriating (in the best ways) world and just all around excellent writing! @mattfnwallace.bsky.social I hope you are so proud of these books!

Sat at work, absolutely exhausted after a migraine yesterday. Tired brain came up with a story idea while listening to @fivefourpod.bsky.social so now instead of working we are jotting down notes. So far it's a clear case of how many of my favourite things can I put into one outline? Y E S

"Speak his Name" GNU Terry Pratchett - 12 Mars 2015

GNU Sir Terry. One of the very best.
Dad… it’s been 9 years. In our family collection of blurry, squinty and poorly composed photos around the world, I found this - a typical Pratchett shot since we are 1)Not looking at the camera 2)focused on food and 3) embracing hat wearing. The trifecta. Miss you always. ❤️

*sigh* You cannot debate a fascist with logic. All you do is give their views further exposure and further acceptability. Their argument and appeal isn't logical: it's an appeal to authority, and to being inherently superior as reassurance. Coherence is entirely optional.

hey @dreddieclark.bsky.social thanks for championing A Chorus of Dragons. Just started book 3, am very much enjoying myself and also (utterly predictably) very much in love with Thurvishar.

A treasure trove of recommendations from old short lists and an award I wasnt formerly aware of to keep an eye on. thank you! I'm off to read some Jenn Lyons.
Extended SFF nerd posting coming in so if that's not what you're here for feel free to mute this thread. Pretty sure the Hugos will retain the prestige they have in SFF fandom in future, but the clusterfuck with the vote count is an opportunity to look at other awards as a potential sign of quality

Do get it if you haven't yet. It is most excellent! My most favourite stabby man! (and his also very good husband)
So hey it's Tết/Lunar new year so have a story set during Tết, aka "bring your murder-happy husband to meet the family, get dragged into murder investigation" (insofar as murder-happy husband is concerned: great, no need for small talk) www.amazon.com/dp/B088B3DYZG/

A year from now, I’ll be releasing a book about the first center for #transgender rights, surgery, support—1918-1933. It follows the story of trans pioneer Dora Richter, her Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld, and the fight against Nazi oppression. The fight continues: www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-...

Found Sumner in Orcus because of this and my, what an utterly wonderful book. Thank you for writing it @tkingfisher.bsky.social It might be a new favourite. It feels like home. Like some of Pratchett does, during hard hard times. (And I'm very much looking forward to my Saint of Steel reread, too)
I reread the first three Saint of Steel books by @tkingfisher.bsky.social in prep for #4 coming out, which meant I had to reread Swordheart which meant I had to reread the Clockwork Boys and anyway now I've nearly finished Summer in Orcus via Nine Goblins and I am feeling Much Better.

That's the point though, isn't it. People would love to have written a book and (yes, I'm laughing, too) get rich from it. How hard can it be. If only they had the time. So behold the mighty tool that cuts out the time consuming bullshit. An author, at last. Without the pesky writing.
If you don't want to solve your own book problems, or put in the work to cooperate with a beta reader, or the work/money to hire an editor, may I humbly suggest that writing a novel is not in fact compulsory and you could always take up watercolours.
