Also: It's the scarcity of housing that makes it an attractive investment to hedge funds in the first place. A better way to own Wall Street is by building enough homes to end the shortage.
I'm a bit skeptical about this "get hedge funds out of housing and families into housing" idea. I mean, what do hedge funds and corporations do with all the housing that they own? Surely they...rent it to families? On further inspection, the Jersey City bill appears to just be anti-renter:

Most headlines on the GOP platform abortion changes will be garbage about “softening.” Pay attention to the reaction from a top anti-abortion group: “It is important that the GOP reaffirmed its commitment to protect unborn life today through the 14th Amendment.”

“Why is everyone pretending like we had a normal primary?” — because we…did? The incumbent ran mostly unopposed other than a few fringier candidates? I truly don’t understand what I’m missing here…
For wherever you stand on the whole issue, I will never understand the sudden insistence that even a weak incumbent president has an expected “serious” challenger. I kinda feel like I’m going crazy watching otherwise smart people point out that absence like it’s unusual.

What has been going on the past week and a half is one of the worst instances of collective journalistic malpractice that I’ve ever seen
The NYT Parkinson's "scoop" is even worse than it seems from the headline, bc buried in paragraph 11 the reporters *know* Dr. Connard met with someone other than Biden, and on March 28, 2024 the President's Public Schedule shows Biden was in NYC the whole day

I will note that never once did WH press corp reporters get this heated during the Trump admin. They are just straight up fully on board with trying to burn this admin down and bring Trump back to power.
Sorry to share a Twitter link, but I do feel it’s necessary to see video of the press conference vultures it’s really really nuts, and completely out of line. We should continue to demand better of our mainstream media x.com/acyn/status/...

Trump continues to benefit from the very strange norm among journalists that "if it's said in public, it's not a scandal." How much more space has the "Biden is old" story been given than Trump's promise to jail his political opponents? www.nytimes.com/2024/07/01/u...

This aligns with the Project 2025 position, which Trump’s campaign staff has tried to distance him from, but which Trump’s Republican Party is also accepting in full. A complete rollback of all women’s reproductive freedom.
Meanwhile, where is the top headline in the NYT that the draft GOP platform states that fetuses have constitutional rights, amid Trump/RNC efforts to claim it "softens" the GOP abortion position?

Yes, that too. The implied suggestion that political news media is learning into with a story like this in particular that having something like Parkinson’s actually disqualifies you from elected office is just deeply gross.

Right. Either explanation certainly seems more likely than “Biden secretly has Parkinson’s and is hiding it,” especially if you have experience with a loved one having Parkinson’s and actually know what it looks like.

that’s okay i am sure the RNC is well positioned to bail them out, it’s not like they’re directing donors to dump their money into trump’s PAC
Fun fact: they spent all of their war chest in the first quarter of the year and were down to 320k on hand, 185k owed as of the end of March. As one would expect of a party that has the upper hand.

One reason why a Parkinson’s expert might have visited the WH 8 times in 8 months is bc a big Parkinson’s bill just got passed and signed. But don’t let that little bit of fact get in the way of your shitty ableist rumor mongering, NYT

Reminder that the BEST-CASE SCENARIO for a Trump re-elect is that he watches reruns and farts around online while Jared, Stephen Miller, and the incompetents bumble about ineffectually. And EVEN THEN, we would lose 4 years off the clock responding to the climate crisis. Which is a death knell.

Really worth watching this explainer on one of the key elements of Project 2025. For Brits, it's also worth noting the similarity with Reform UK's pledge to replace the civil service with political appointees.

I am not convinced that Biden is doomed b/c of the debate in and of itself. The poll averages are no longer moving in Trump’s direction. But regardless of that, the ship will not right itself if elites are unwilling to shut up and move on.
Ed is absolutely correct about this, and “time to shit or get off the pot” is exactly the phrase I have been using in offline discussions about this
