My latest article looks into how companies seem to be diversity-washing with DEIB while silencing dissenting voices. In 2022, Gallup said 87% of CHROs claimed to increase DEIB investment, but mass layoffs typically impacted the "diverse" first and harder.

Last month Roku TVs held a bunch of people hostage, disabling TVs unless they accepted a ToS agreement. I wrote about how we are in a golden age of user hostile consumer products and the pervasive sense that the quality of the things we buy is decaying (GIFT LINK) www.theatlantic.com/technology/a...

Google search operators are GOATed. Another thing you can add is "-inurl:" without the quotation marks (e.g. -inurl:openart.ai) and that will filter down further if your search is particularly AI heavy.
How to filter out AI Images in Google Image Search. Sharing this with my students so I figured I'd also share it with everyone here. Hopefully this image is still relevant given Google's changes. Save this on your computer or phone and refer to it as needed.

Language plays such a pivotal role in product management, and understanding how others use it is crucial to crafting delightful products. But if words are not followed by actions, we end up in a neverending chain of process and framework. #productmanagement

i at least had the “good” fortune to not know this existed. i can’t imagine being a queer kid today and hearing, “there are books about you where you are loved and have a place in the world, but we keep them from you because they are dangerous & you deserve neither love nor a mirror.”

Yet another excellent examole of media enshittification
Biden didn't "quell the concerns" of the people *running against him* because the criticisms from your opponents are not "concerns" they are campaign strategies, you dumb mfers it's like saying the Knicks' three-point shooting is unlikely to persuade the Celtics to stop trying to score.

Looks like the person who posted the black & white version of the comic blocked me. My point is - comic creators need to earn a living too and if you don’t credit their work you are taking away their ability to gain a following. It’s no different than expecting any other content for free.
It’s truly amazing to see this particular comic traveling around social media uncredited and apparently edited. Original from FB on left. Artist: eat the rich comedian / FB eattherich_comic / IG

Well, then. This'll truly be the test of how well we can keep alt-right types from taking over here. Remember: block on sight, and do not engage. Starve them of the oxygen of attention.

Company culture should not — cannot — be thought of as being divorced from business success. The social role a company chooses to have has a major impact on how its products are planned, developed, and maintained; on its product culture; & our impact as product teams. uxdesign.cc/company-cult...

Can anyone tell me the names of the Chinese authors and their works who were removed from the Hugo ballots? I would really like to know their names and read their work.
So in further Hugo news—yes, it just keeps going—if you put the leaked spreadsheet next to the list of nominees, it looks like pretty much nobody in the big fiction categories should even have been on the ballot. They should almost all have been Chinese authors.

I wasn't planning to comment more about the Hugos but the discussions about the "slate" really bug me. I don't think I have seen any translations of the blogpost from Science Fiction World (the publication that put out the list), so let me try to translate it very carefully here for context.

Looks like I shouldn't have made it in Novelette either (maybe)? Instead "Upstart" (which I was shocked not to see, it's GREAT): clarkesworldmagazine.com/lu_12_22/ & "Hummingbird, Resting on Honeysuckles": clarkesworldmagazine.com/yang_11_22/ You can angry-read both at @clarkesworldmagazine.com
So. I looked at the hugo validation spreadsheet. 😭 If I am reading this right, none of the fiction winners, myself included (Short, Novelette, Novella, Novel, Series) would have been on the final ballot if there hadn't been a slew of Chinese nominees yanked off. drive.google.com/file/d/1rhCw...

In product managenent, we talk about not assuming what your user wants. To which I personally add, do not purposefully enshittify your work. #product management
And the next heartbreak is that there are a number of Chinese writers who should have been nominated and would probably have taken home Hugo Awards.
