The construction and the subsequent traffic in the Twin Cities is truly maddening. Add 30 minutes to anything.

A few years ago, Jon Lovett floated a theory that media treats Democrats like protagonists - to be challenged, accounted, and forced to be behave in growth-oriented ways - while the GOP are treated like antagonists - immutable, expected to disrupt, thematic obstacles. Thinking about that a lot.
I don’t recall the NYT calling for Trump to step down after being convicted of 34 counts of fraud and being called by a judge at his civil trial a rapist in the common person sense

I guess I’ve become sort of a science-hype debunker so as far as this goes, let me just say: it’s real. Really really real. You could soon get a shot every six months that would basically eliminate your chance of getting HIV. Taken a step further: we have the tools to eliminate HIV in our lifetime.
Gilead’s twice-yearly shot to prevent HIV succeeds in late-stage trialwww.cnbc.com Gilead's experimental twice-yearly medicine to prevent HIV was 100% effective in a late-stage trial, the company said Thursday.

The University of Minnesota has paused the hiring of Israeli scholar Raz Segal to head the institution’s Holocaust and Genocide school over his principled position that Israel is perpetrating a genocide. Truly reprehensible. jewishinsider.com/2024/06/univ...

“Trump's political career has been one long demonstration that the legal structures that were supposed to be the bedrock of the rule of law are worthless. Impeachment was no match for a…political party. The Emoluments Clause and the Insurrection Clause are words…the Supreme Court chose not to read…”
Guarantee this is a better read than any of the 1,000 purely speculative and deeply stupid "What Trump's Conviction Means for November" pieces that every major media outlet seems intent on grunting out today.

If the Wolves lose this series, I don’t know how the Minnesota sports psyche comes back. Yes, it’s been here many times before, but people have been feeling differently about this Wolves team.

The right made us turn our K-12 classrooms into training grounds for resisting violent invasion (bc heaven forfend it be slightly more difficult for psychopaths to buy an ar-15!) and now they're surprised that 19 year olds know how to make it difficult to enter a classroom
They do though. They _all_ know how to barricade themselves because school shooter drills were what the cops recommended instead of literally any kind of law enforcement that might prevent school shootings.

A thing that SCOTUS could have done is just let the appeals court ruling from February stand, allowing the trial to go forward. Instead they'll reach roughly the same conclusion while managing to delay Trump's trial until after the election.

If I had run a thought experiment on “what are the characteristics that would make someone’s accidental, preventable death a national news story with real policy consequences?”, Angelo Chao would be the answer. How is there not a national recall of all Teslas? The doors don’t open in an emergency!
This story is horrifying — after making a mistake with Tesla’s awkward gearshift, Angela Chao found herself sinking into a pond. Emergency services could not break into the Tesla because of the glass used in the cars. Chao died. www.wsj.com/real-estate/...

Shocked how little this is discussed: "If Ds lose the bet, the court’s 6-3 conservative majority will turn into a 7-2 majority at some point... If they win the bet, what do they win? They win the opportunity to read dissents written by Sotomayor instead of some other liberal justice."

I have a lot of thoughts about the prosecution of Tim Burke, but I think maybe the most important takeaway is: I am confident that in Tim's shoes, every good and smart and rigorous journalist I know would have done exactly what he did defector.com/tim-burkes-i...

Every two weeks a judge in a different state bangs a gavel, announces "it is the finding of this court that the accused, Donald Trump, is an absolute turbo shithead" and then fines him an amount roughly equal to a MLB team's entire payroll. This is expected to continue for months.
