France out here proving that actually you can tell the far right to go to hell even when it looks like they’re on track for a big victory are we going to let ourselves be shown up by the French?
French exit poll news and which seems a good sign

8 policies that could be vulnerable to new legal challengeswapo.st The Supreme Court jettisoned longstanding precedent that helped the federal government make regulations. Now broad policies could be determined by judges.

genuinely hopeful sign that every big name GOP garbage monster is frantically trying to distance themselves from Project Say The Quiet Part Loud In an Easily-Digestible Bullet Point Format About Which There Can Be No Confusion. this means we should all absolutely continue never shutting up about it

Wow, maybe competence and experience really does matter for public services. Who knew? (Anyone who studies public organizations. Or, really, anyone with an ounce of common sense).

I keep thinking about how the SCOTUS justices, who have proven they care a TON about their media coverage, issued the worst decision since Dredd Scott and then got to happily watch outlets spend the next week running 10,000 “Biden in Trouble” stories and like 5 “Hm, Immunity is Interesting” stories

Dems should run ads just showing this, then slowly zooming in on "end recreational sex"
I really don’t think most people realize just how hard the boot will come down if Trump and the Republicans win the election. Most people have never experienced the totalitarian surveillance state with the power to reach into their homes and minds at will they are telling us is their plan.

“Politically Correct” “Cultural Marxism” “CRT” “DEI” Is it any wonder that The Heritage Foundation & the Religious Right movement were founded over the IRS revoking Bob Jones University’s tax exempt status — for refusing students in interracial relationship (It’s always about white supremacy)
It’s bad out there!

As a side note, this is John McEntee, Trump's Director of White House Personnel and the primary architect of Project 2025. On Tik Tok he said he gives counterfeit bills to homeless people so they will be arrested when they go to spend them.

A hill I will die on: all white-collar crimes are violent crimes. It's just that the violence is removed from the perpetrator because the perpetrator is wealthy.

This is super important work. And it looks like it's actually having an effect. Normal people learn about Project 2025 and are scared as shitless as they should be. The Nation, The New Republic, Rolling Stone, Boston Review and others are doing the work that NYT and WaPo are neglecting.
We need more, but credit where due: both The Nation (June 2024 issue) and Boston Review have run a breakdown of the Project 2025 “Mandate for Leadership” document. Media Matters, too. Lots of good work going on digesting this. www.bostonreview.net/articles/ins... www.mediamatters.org/project-2025

I can’t believe that under a system that awards unlimited power to unlimited capital, and unlimited capital to those most willing to exploit others, the side that capital favors more is pure evil and achieves its most despicable aims, and the side that capital favors less is foundering beyond parody

The DC press likes easy scandals and horse race coverage. They will be on this for awhile. If they were actually interested in policy or whatever we’d be in a very different place.
This is also a weird product of summer 2024’s relative peace, prosperity, and boring news cycles. No pandemics, recessions, wars, riots, or crime waves to cover.

I guess you can say Americans are ignorant if they don't understand the role the Supreme Court has in our system, but like... why would they? It's neither a system that makes any sense nor a system that actually exists in the Constitution (which didn't give the courts any policy making role)

Voters just blame whoever is President for whatever happens during their Presidency, which is a major reason why allowing the situation where the Supreme Court absurdly gets to make policy across whatever issue they want to persist is so deadly to Democrats
Stuff like this makes me bananas “For Antinya Walker, 19, who says she will be voting in her first presidential election this fall…said she believed Biden was against women’s rights. She blamed him for tightened abortion restrictions across the country”
In deep-blue L.A., Democrats feel worried, betrayed, stoic about Biden's futurewww.latimes.com Democratic voters in deep-blue LA County debated whether Biden should remain the presidential nominee following his disastrous debate performance last week.
