The media has largely erased the Biden Boom economy. Every story about Trump's scandals contained a "to be sure, the economy remains persistently strong under Trump" paragraph. Even when we get good-to-great economic news under Biden it's presented like we're in a recession!

If this were a normal election, President Biden would be extolling excellent economic news: inflation looks like it has not only been tamed, but turned around. Median wage growth (which excises returns for the top 1%) is outpacing inflation significantly. Unemployment is near record lows.

It also makes me feel insane that the rat fuck around Biden’s age and mental capacity is being uncritically spread around by Democrats when Trump is *incredibly obviously* grotesquely mentally incapacitated, in a way that is genuinely terrifying.

It makes me feel very much unmoored from reality to see all this *buying into* the Biden Too Old ratfuck narrative, days after the Supreme Court ruled that Trump gets to be dictator for life, just weeks after Trump became a convicted felon (oh, and there’s the Epstein stuff that just came out).

I just don’t think there’s any way the entire NYT editorial board freaking out and calling for Biden to drop out - despite never making any such call for Trump as he plowed through sedition and conviction - will look good with the hindsight of, like, two weeks. Even if Biden does terribly!

I’m on the record for years saying I think Biden’s age is a liability, way back through to the “Joe Biden is good at politics!” days, and also that many Dems could beat Trump. If I could flip a switch and have a younger nominee I’d do it! But now? Without inducing disaster? How?

i happen to agree that if biden steps down now and there is some semblance of agreement to rally around Harris, it would work, she's better than she was 4 years ago and could mount a vigorous, immediate, well-informed campaign, the kind that biden is not up to right now, despite having a good record

No one should submit to the GOP boot, even if we lose in 2024, even if Trump tries to stay in office forever. Take some lessons from your ancestors, who risked their lives and livelihoods to resist tyranny.

on the record, i think the freak-outs about the actual importance of the debate were over the top, but some freaking out about these Supreme Court decisions is entirely warranted (however, not to the extent of ceding defeat and rolling over and submitting to the GOP boot, either)

I think what bugs me about this whole saga is that all I want is for democratic operatives to act like democratic operatives. You watch the debate and conclude that Biden needs to drop out? Have that conversation in private with your admin friends or other operatives. Not reporters. Not Twitter.
