Good morning, Finland! My last full day here, and we have gone to see the new church, which is a mere 200 years old.

Banning contraception really stands out for me. They think they're going after all those promiscuous single women; meanwhile, married couples are realizing the "should we have another kid" discussion is turning into "can we afford to have sex."

“Although the Biden admin seems to have run extremely well for 3.5 years, with a strong cabinet, few scandals, a thriving economy & major legislative accomplishments, the punditocracy has suggested we should ignore this record & decide on the basis of the 90-minute debate” @rebeccasolnit.bsky.social
Why is the pundit class so desparate to push Biden out of the race? | Rebecca Solnitwww.theguardian.com Yes, Biden had a bad debate – but so did Trump. The media is once again repeating the mistakes of 2016

2024 is the year when democracy is on the ballot, with extraordinary risks of major powers turning to authoritarianism. But in the space of the a couple of days, two of the biggest countries in Europe have moved decisively to the left. One of these was expected (UK), the other not (France).

The fact they're simultaneously running don't vote campaigns and trying to undermine the dem candidate is proof that the moneybags who own these publications are united in realizing their robber baron days are drawing to a close under a guy who is the most pro labour president of the 21st century

please please please never make the mistake of thinking that this bunch of out of touch beltway ivory tower white upper class twits at the NYT has 1% as much to say about how this election will go than brown working class people across the US no matter how much they cosplay the opposite
i think maybe brown people heard Trump quite clearly

Bree here, and I want to add on to this personally, as someone living in the state that helped kill the VTRA. These are the instructions for voting absentee in Alabama (which can only be done by excuse) and on the right was our SoS mocking people's ?s about getting an ID during covid.
Rules about Voter ID can be confusing and state specific, and getting that ID can be costly. Vote Riders helps to make sure that citizens wanting to participate are able to clear this hurdle.

In my day job, I work on vote.gov. We’re currently working on an accessible form filler tool to help people register to vote — see it at vote.gov/national-vot... This is open for comment right now in the Federal Register. Comments of all kinds are helpful. www.federalregister.gov/documents/20...
NVRFvote.gov Vote.gov is a United States government website that provides trusted voting information and can help you find voter registration rules for your state.

an old professor, a survivor of his country's civil war, often reminded me that all activism relies upon hope, sister to faith--the evidence of things unseen. our ability to imagine and enact better futures, even when we don't have visuals, is how we endure.

The SCOTUS may be the fountainhead but nobody wants a fascist USA more than the legacy media here, like nobody. Not even Trump wants it this bad.

No one is coming to save us. We need to build working-class power, we need to build a movement that can crush fascism, we need to organize like never before. Because we don't have a democracy to save, but we do have one to build from the ground up. www.jphilll.com/p/the-suprem...

My friend group has started applying the “Are they Dolly Parton Christians or Orange Man Christians?” meme and this is thoroughly orange.
A homeless shelter wrote an amicus brief in the Grant’s Pass case. They argued SCOTUS should let the city arrest the homeless because, and I am not shitting you, the ban on doing so meant less people were willing to abide by their “two church services a day and no sex” requirement to sleep inside.

Yeah you're bummed out thanks to the debate, but have you tried being bummed out because of the debate AND an increasingly authoritarian Supreme Court? WELL!
End of feed.
