Putting The Privatization of Everything on my reading list: thenewpress.com/books/privat...
I only read about half of The Privatization of Everything before I had to stop from sheer rage and frustration but there’s a whole section about how the attempted privatization of the NWS has already led to people dying from tornados as subscription services get weather alert priority.
The Privatization of Everything | The New Pressthenewpress.com A sweeping exposé of the ways in which private interests strip public goods of their power and diminish democracy, the hardcover edition of The Privatization of Everything elicited a wide spectrum of ...

Because of this I have to use 3 different pharmacies. CVS infusion for Hizentra. Local infusion pharmacy for hydration (which is medical not pharmacy?!) And Walgreens for day to day “regular” meds. I cannot use CVS for those. I cannot use local infusion pharmacy for Hizentra…
One of the most vile lesser-discussed evils of our Healthcare system is how insurance has financial partnerships with certain pharmacies and you can't get meds at pharmacies outside of those partnerships.

Covid aware people are engaging in ongoing acts of radical hope. They are doggedly fighting to protect their own health, the health of vulnerable groups, and the overall functioning of society They do this despite shaming, mask bans, social cost, financial cost, etc. That’s surely not doomerism.
I’m just really over people calling COVID conscious/cautious people doomers.

Oh god this is so good. I especially appreciate the section on the Census and voter suppression. Working on partisan gerrymandering for several years, I’ve watched with horror as the court discarded its own prior requests for useable standards and legislatures simply jumped straight to suppression.

Gonna be fun to see if the RNC decides to try to stop their gun-fucking attendees from carrying this time.
And guns are allowed everywhere at the RNC. Thanks to the state legislature forbidding a gun prohibition.

also true
Political violence always benefits authoritarians because liberals will always condemn it and authoritarians, regardless of whether they are perpetrators or victims, will always use it to claim more power.

this is true.

From now on? You need to be even more careful and thoughtful about what you share and why. Especially if you have any power, because it’s not gonna affect you hardest They will absolutely make targets of people you’ve already declared disposable

Yeah I keep seeing this reaction, but it’s wholly at odds with the history of these things. The bump Reagan got was short lived and that was the exception to the rule. TR, George Wallace, Gerald Ford all survived attacks but did not win their races.
People who are assuring us that this means Trump is going to win are clearly unfamiliar with the deeply weird lore of this country's THREE mid-seventies presidential-candidate assassination attempts.

Even with current batteries the biggest limit is access to chargers. In some regions the grid also needs to be upgraded. In fact, we're not far of from the scenario where parked EVs can be turned into power grid demand stabilizers, and with solid state batteries the extra wear won't even matter
