"Joe Biden is a zero on infrastructure" is a "Stephen Curry isn't a good shooter" level take, I cannot believe someone actually threw that out there

For the rest of their lives, whenever the justices in the Trump majority meet a member of the public, they should hear only one thing: “You betrayed the American constitutional order.” Let them hear it at every law school Q&A, every cocktail party, and every trip to the store.
This is the best analysis of the Trump opinion I have seen.

Funny how a lot of the “your online activism doesn’t matter” folks are ALSO the “tiktok is why young voters hate Biden” or “social media is the only reason people think the economy is bad” people. It can’t be useless if it’s also the thorn in the side of the powerful.

If for any reason Joe Biden can't complete a 2nd term, we know who will take over. Her name is Kamala Harris and America already voted for her once. If Donald Trump can't complete a 2nd term, we have no idea who will take over because he TRIED TO HAVE HIS LAST VP MURDERED.

Organizers got enough signatures to put a measure protecting abortion on the ballot in Arkansas. In *Arkansas*. They had *no national support*. Ignore the pundits melting down over not being treated as Very Special Boys. Dobbs has fundamentally changed elections. Everything they know is wrong.
Arkansas abortion rights groups collect enough signatures to advance ballot measurewww.nbcnews.com A measure to enshrine abortion rights in the ruby red state’s constitution is now one step closer to making the November ballot — but major obstacles remain.

yes, we boiled the planet, but it was worth it to make a machine that, instead of adding two plus two, takes the statistical average of every answer to questions containing "what" "is" "two" and "plus" from a database of illegal cell phone transcripts and returns a fake nude pic of a high schooler

those arguing that taylor swift can't be a role model because she is an unmarried and childless woman at 34 are doing a great job of arguing that children need more women role models who are unmarried and childless at 34

Starying to feel hard to avoid the conclusion that this gang up on Biden is the mostly white Beltway press being Big Mad that the last president was chosen by Black voters who DGAF about their dipshit endorsement and by golly they are determined those lessers will not do it again

When I worked in Minnesota in the legislature, there were bills every year to legalize fireworks. And there would be hearings. And people would be like, “Pfft, who testifies against this? Busybody neighbors?” The actual answer was firefighters and doctors, mostly. Especially eye doctors.
Horrifying. All, if you know young ppl who will use fireworks these next few weeks, please do what you can to either discourage them entirely or make sure they use them safely. Hundreds of young ppl will be in the ER with firework injuries this month. Many of these injuries will be life altering.

something that is important to remember is that the media and the politically engaged have been following close enough that they know what the candidates are going to say and judge largely on style people who don't pay close attention don't know what they're going to say and are listening to it!

It's also a pretty pointed burn at your own customers to say "To better reflect the values of our rural communities we are going to be real pieces of shit."

it's a commonplace by now but it bears repeating: respectability won't save anyone. you don't have to _like_ the "weirdos" and "perverts" but you do have to recognize that the fash don't think you're any better.

Werner Herzog directing a Maybelline ad: Perhaps she is born with it. What a frightful notion, to be imbued with the fetters of capitalist commodification from birth. It suggests God Himself is a part of our dreadful pattern instead of a refuge from it.

Race is still factored in. White applicants get to keep the advantages they've accrued through systemic racism without any countervailing forces.

Gotta buy some fireworks for the 4th of July. I don’t really like fireworks, I just hate dogs. And veterans. And counting to ten. [please note: I do not actually hate dogs and/or veterans and will not really be buying any fireworks. If you do, have fun but please be considerate. And careful.]

on the record, i think the freak-outs about the actual importance of the debate were over the top, but some freaking out about these Supreme Court decisions is entirely warranted (however, not to the extent of ceding defeat and rolling over and submitting to the GOP boot, either)

The thing about taking statutory interpretation away from the agencies is that Congress actually has power over those agencies, but does not have power over the Court. It’s power grab in the guise of helping; it’s “helping” in a paternalistic, condescending, unchecked manner.

I think one of the biggest distinctions between left- and right-wing conspiracy theories is that the right is like “everything shadow orgs do is a total secret and that’s how you know it’s working” and the left is more “we think they’re doing this because they keep saying so in major media.”
