Most of the Project 2025 agenda can be split into two categories: 1: Stuff like the anti-immigrant and anti-LGBTQ+ proposals that will intentionally get people killed. 2: Stuff like the "defund NOAA and privatize weather services" proposals that will unintentionally get people killed.
They have such winning ideas like “why don’t we charge people who want to know if that tornado is gonna hit their house.”
The MAGA Plan to End Free Weather Reportswww.theatlantic.com Project 2025 would all but dissolve the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

IDK who the first person to express this sentiment was, but: "When people talk about traveling to the past, they worry about radically changing the present by doing something small, but barely anyone in the present really thinks that they can radically change the future by doing something small."
What are people doing w/neighbors & friends to create & nurture networks of collective care & mutual aid? What small but significant (or super size me and spectacular, and everything in between) actions & practices are people talking about, preparing for, or taking?

In case you missed the dick-swinging (that's a legal term) going on between Elon Musk and Thierry Breton over on X, it's... possibly actually pretty important this time. They're posturing about DSA enforcement again. 1/

So people are talking about the fake version of the JD Vance sparkling water. Here’s the real one. And you know, as someone who had kind of a crash-course introduction to the world of the American elite, let me tell my very similar and extremely different story.
J. D. Vance: What I didn’t know how the world of the American elite workswww.foxnews.com I went to Yale to earn a law degree. But that first year at Yale taught me most of all that I didn’t know how the world of the American elite works.

This is a good point. She could have waited until after the election, or after a jury is empaneled. It smacks a bit of mask-off triumphalism, a sort of HA WE ARE WINNING TRUMP 4EVER BITCHEZ, which may be an accurate perception of the drift of things, or not.
The only thing that surprises me about what Judge Cannon did is that she did it this soon, on grounds this likely to be overturned.

Institutions work until they don’t. It’s banal but true. Courts as institutions worked when Trump tried to steal the election, but FedSoc has been chipping away at them for decades, and I think it is very rational to doubt they will work any more to restrain an executive.
WSJ this morning. lol at the last bit. "Leaders on both sides need to stop describing the stakes of the election in apocalyptic terms. Democracy won't end if one or the other candidate is elected. Fascism is not aborning if Mr. Trump wins, unless you have little faith in American institutions."

Prime example of "devil is in the details" here: The provision barring the use of material for training appears to only apply to works that have added "content provenance" metadata, which is defined as being "state of the art." In other words: more likely to apply to Disney's stuff than yours.
After reading just the definition section: This is a catastrophically bad bill - and I'm saying that coming from a very different position than Prof. Lemley when it comes to AI training and copyright. Also: It's critical to keep in mind that there's big money on ALL sides of AI discourse.

Getting increasingly pissed off by various politicians "distraught" today. This is America, where every day we wonder if this when someone we love gets mowed down by a shooter. Pretending to be shocked just shows you don't get it. Trump has a Secret Service detail to protect him. My kids don't.

Yes, requests for non-fascists to "lower the temperature" is just a nicer way of putting the Heritage Foundation's statement that the revolution will remain bloodless if liberals allow it. It's a demand for acquiescence to the conditions of violence they created.
Seen a lot of comments like “hey Americans who support democracy, oppose political violence, and value truth, we have to take the temperature down,” and while well-intentioned, I don’t think it’ll work, because they’re not the ones raising the temperature.

Please don’t “both sides” the “violent political rhetoric” conversation when one side regularly glorifies and intimidates with guns and the other side speaks out to end gun violence. These are not the same.

Senate Dems should take one of their assorted gun control bills off the shelf, rename it something like "Trump Assassination Prevention Act," and force Rs to do a talking filibuster to block it

I'll repeat what I wrote in my book. People going after others should ask themselves: Am I going after the appropriate entity or the *available target*? A LOT of latter goes on. But cruelty laterally/downward does nothing to the entity that created a situation &ensures creation of a truly awful vibe
I think a lot of people get into a bad space here because the people with power they actually want to yell at would never in a million years be on Bluesky so we end up yelling at people who aren’t that bad and it makes everyone pissy and weird
