I happened to turn on the TV this morning just in time to see Fred and Ginger dancing to "Night and Day," and it hit me like a brick: Beauty and grace helped people get through the worst of the Depression and a war. Arts and culture are more valuable now than ever. 📷

Guy literally had secrets in his bathroom, selling them to foreign nationals. Calls people to steal votes. Sends a mob to keep himself in office. This country pissing all over its history to bend over backwards for this guy? This is the guy we bring down the whole experiment for?

I live every day stunned that the guy who killed more Americans than anyone in history besides Jefferson Davis AND attempted a violent coup on national television AND suborned US foreign policy to his own electoral interests badly enough to get impeached for it AND
I get why this is the case, but it’s so wild that one million Americans died of COVID because of Trump’s handling of the pandemic, and it’s not even remotely an issue in this election. What a country!

Ten months ago, I joined with three other women to demand an investigation into allegations the City of Beverly Hills colluded with extremists to keep an abortion clinic out of the city. We found evidence of multiple meetings & a quid pro quo deal www.yahoo.com/news/beverly...
How Beverly Hills became an unlikely battleground for the future of abortion rightswww.yahoo.com The campaign by an antiabortion group to block the opening of a specialized clinic in Beverly Hills may offer a playbook for similar efforts in other cities and states.

“They want to eliminate national parks” is a very simple way to get just about anyone on the Stop Project 2025 train. Are there much more glaring and life-threatening goals of P25? Yes but even your most bigoted cousin does not want to see the parks system sold for parts.
This!! Start with “they want to end no fault divorce, sell national parks, and ban porn” end with tax structure.

anyway, is everyone good and mad now? fucking stay that way for the next five months, there will be more aggressions and indignities and insults to come. staying mad as hell about it is how we won in 2020 and it's how we'll win in 2024.

"With fear for our democracy, I dissent," is about as bedrock and terrifying and vital a statement as you're going to get. That's a line you spraypaint on walls, that you ink into your skin. And it's chilling that it is necessary to say at all.
Justice Sotomayor, in conclusion.

A huge winning message for the Democrats is "you will not have to think about this guy ever again"
Just at the most basic level it is really unhealthy to have to thought about Donald Trump as much as everyone in America has over the last nine or so years. Spending a decade of my life thinking about a super boring, super shitty crook and all the bad stuff he's doing or might do. It's embarrassing.

:dons librarian hat: Digital preservation is more expensive than preserving paper; it takes more staff, active attention, and consistent computing resources. Libraries have discussed “digital dark age” since the 1990s. Corp archives often 1st to go b/c suits haven’t figured out how to profit.
One of the interesting things about the Internet is that we’re actually living through a dark age. Future historians are unlikely to have records of this period. Paper and ink last. Digital storage, less so. variety.com/2024/tv/news...
