I know they get rolled all the time but for the Times to get rolled by “actually they just want to reclaim the values of Western civilization as they see it … with larger families and fewer immigrants” is the Times putting the 14 words in the paper
"if there’s one problem we have never, ever faced in this country, it’s presidents who are afraid to exercise their authority. Or expand it. Or exceed it." radleybalko.substack.com/p/the-suprem...
The Vatican excommunicated Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, exacting a severe punishment on the most vociferous internal critic of Pope Francis for refusing to recognize the authority of the pope and liberal reforms made by the Roman Catholic Church since the Second Vatican Council in the 1960s.
Labour are going to have a crushing majority in the next house, but I'm still a little uneasy. They're not really picking up a huge swing from the Tory side. They're currently, and it's incredibly early, up only 2.2% over last election. The swing is the Tory hemorrhage to the Reform side.
Ok, everybody had their fun saying Biden should just disappear his political enemies because it’s allowed now. It’s a new day, and those jokes are all old now, and also they’re cynical and stupid and counterproductive.
Democracy is on the ballot. Stop fucking acting like it’s already gone.
STFU!
Do not vent! Do not display your bravery!
It's not just you! If you say dumb sh*t, anyone associated with you can be tagged with it.
"Associates with violent . . . with tattoos of" = reasonable suspicion = criminal predicate for an investigation.
That's how U.S. counterterrorism works.
PSA: if you're talking about doing actual political violence on social media in public, you are a dangerously ignorant twerp who lacks the situational awareness required to do anything useful for anyone.
❌ It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness

“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
Damn right.
Hope and kindness is radical. They win when you despair and turn away from humanity because you give up the power to them.
There is always something to fight for, to live for one minute more. Fight for even just one more step forward, even if you are pushed back. Persist.
Based on how well the courts have been acting as historians lately, I'm looking forward to them acting as biochemists, metallurgists, physicians, engineers and economists!
Joe was fourth from the bottom of my choices in the 2020 primary, overdelivered on my expectations - probably largely due to the overall team/cabinet - and I will crawl across broken glass to vote for him again over the alternative.
I kind of see it like a late medieval France with interrelated autonomous duchies nominally subject to a central authority strong enough to support itself but not to singlehandedly overwhelm its nominal vassals. I know JRRM thinks he's got War of the Roses England but he's really got Capetian France
Westeros also doesn’t have a bureaucracy that could administer to such a large territory. Westeros is not an empire, and it’s not even a state, because the monarch doesn’t have a monopoly on violence. I’m not sure if GRRM gets that.
Not voting as a protest is a useless luxury. You are telling the rank and file that they do not have to listen to you. And they are correct. If you didn’t vote, I assume you are on the side of whoever wins.
School Board and dog catchers too.

10 years ago, gay Americans could not get married and have it count in all 50 states
20 years ago, you could be made uninsurable because you got sick once
30 years ago, HIV was a death sentence
40 years ago, acid rain was still a problem
Dedicated public servants keep pushing good things forward
HAHAHA the W. E. B. Du Bois chair and Dean of social sciences wants you to know that faculty should be punished for encouraging students to protest
