I want this so bad. Is it November yet?
Trapped on a space station, cut off from her crew, surrounded by enemies. Commander Max Carmichael has been in tough spots before, but this fight might be unwinnable. November 2024 The #NeoG is back and it's gonna be a good one. Pre-order here: www.amazon.com/Mighty-Will-...

I'm working on policy proposals to protect consumer rights when companies brick smart devices. So please share devices that you've owned that stopped working because the company that made it killed software support or went out of business. Also, please share this request. Thank you.

If facts could change people's mind, the world would be a much better place. Unfortunately, people refuse to believe facts, and instead believe whatever confirms their personal opinion of the matter.
Here's my summary of the current Ai bubble from next week's newsletter

I've refused to watch debates for decades now. Every time I watched, I got mad that they are not, in fact, debates. Ask anyone who was ever on the debate team.
What if - and hear me out - from now on, we judge debate performance by the accuracy of the participants statements?

the real way to fight climate change is public transit and bikeable/walkable cities. not cars made for individuals that are still expensive consumer products at the end of the day
Electric vehicles can save lives by polluting the climate less than fossil-fueled vehicles in most places. Yet EVs are much heavier and accelerate faster, so are more dangerous in crashes. @costasamaras.bsky.social argues that increased car-crash deaths could be on par with lives saved via climate.

I'm missing some vital context here... Can anyone fill me in on who, at least, so I can search for it?
I am grieving for his fans, the ones who were still happy about him. I'm thinking about the waves coming off of this news-meteorite, the collateral damage of one person's selfishness.

This is going to be a long thread, most likely, so let me lead with #FuckAI. The current widely available uses of generative AI are just flat out evil, climate destroying, copyright infringing garbage.
BTW, spellcheck is NOT A.I. It's a database to which you can add information. It doesn't learn on its own. So howzabout you stop using that as part of your already ridiculous "not all A.I. is bad" argument?

I'm guessing Rebecca doesn't get invited back to people's houses after the first time. I'm also guessing she doesn't understand why.
hey, let’s check in on white people and see what they’re up to! oh.

This is so me. I recently sold off my massive collection because it was just sitting in a closet taking up room and causing me anxiety. The relief of never having to buy another Magic card is amazing. Except now I'm playing Lorcana instead.
i just remembered i had a dream where i bought a pack of magic cards and this was the rare

The product owner for my team REGULARLY asks a question, and before the person can respond says "I don't know is a valid answer" just to remind us that he does not, in fact, expect us to have all the facts about everything we've worked on for any amount of time.
Actual smart people see being able to not double down, being able to admit error or lack of knowledge, as smart behavior. They respect a person *more* for saying "I don't know" People who only want to appear smart, never seem to do any of this.

I made this Pride flag using only NASA images and our team thought it would be cool to share on social (I work on the NASA heliophysics communications team), but it's getting all sorts of hate on the bird app and Fbook. Thought y'all might be more appreciative of it here. ☺️🏳️‍🌈💖

I will bet anyone any dollars that more English speakers know the word manga than the word banak.
Pssst. Don't tell them that a significant percentage of English vocabulary was kidnapped from other languages.

Seriously. I don't need games, either. In fact, I'd love if I could get an eInk phone, but I don't think any of the existing ones work with Fi.
but I don't WANT AI on my phone

Just read an article about a woman who made $500k+ last year, and won't pay for college for her children. Her reasons came off as "I don't want my children to have the freedom to do what they want, I want them trapped in the existing terrible system."

"...because where else are you going to sell an ebook." This is a very chicken and egg problem, and it drives me nuts. I switched to Kobo specifically because Amazon has so many shitty practices, but many authors simply don't bother with anyone but Kindle because it's not profitable enough.
