i want us to learn to listen when someone says we’ve hurt them. i want us to learn to apologize for the hurt, even when it was unintentional, or when we feel it was justified. i want us to learn to disagree without invalidating, and to honor the validity of thoughts and feelings we do not share.

The idea that children—even infants—have human rights is anathema to the right and only very dimly grasped by liberals and many leftists. 🥚
A lot of people seem to confusedly think that secrecy/anonymity in #adoption is part of “reproductive freedom” because they forget that the reproduction already happened, and that the infant is a person with rights of their own. And by “a lot of people” I mean the fucking ACLU.

What an incredible life. “The Panthers’ defense was run by the New York Law Commune, a radical legal office of which Mr. Stolar was a member…Mr. Stolar helped defend the Camden 28, a group of mostly Roman Catholic war resisters who in 1971 broke into a draft-board office to destroy records.”
Martin Stolar, Lawyer Who Fought for Social Justice, Dies at 81www.nytimes.com His clients included antiwar protesters and terror suspects. His practice “not only defended needy people, it propelled social movements,” a colleague said.

I wrote about one of the most infuriating subplots of the Biden crisis: the insistence that he is a "good man." Please look at the genocide in Gaza and then try to tell me that. www.discourseblog.com/p/please-don...
Please Don't Try to Tell Me Joe Biden Is a Good Manwww.discourseblog.com It is simply not true.

This is the judge who has tried to hold Texas’ family policing system accountable for allowing children in its “care” to be sexually abused, trafficked, drugged, etc. Rather than trying to stop this, the state is trying to have Judge Jack kicked off the case. texastribune.org/2024/07/08/t...
State’s move to bump federal judge from longtime foster care lawsuit …texastribune.org A federal judge has taken the Texas’ foster care system to task for 13 years. Reforms have been made. Now armed with private legal fire power, the state wants the judge off the case.

Colorado split its largest judicial district. Now the more liberal Arapahoe County is likely to elect a reform-minded DA, while Douglas County may bring a punitive prosecutor back into office. NEW in Bolts:

Normalize letting cashiers sit and be on their phones when there's no customers.

Even SCOTUS sucks at the details
Worth noting the EPA's brief correctly uses "nitrogen oxide" 7 times, and the EPA submitted a declaration from an official who used it twice. But nobody involved in the majority opinion, Justices and clerks, bothered to take the EPA's brief seriously, and so none of them noticed the error.

Still marveling at Gorsuch's Ohio v. EPA opinion, in which he confused nitrogen oxide (a pollutant) with nitrous oxide (laughing gas). He did this five times, never once getting it right—in an opinion overruling the EPA's own expert scientific analysis! s3.documentcloud.org/documents/24...

I don't get it, why can't they commit fraud? Congress is doing it, scotus is doing it, the presidents do it, the wealthiest people in the world do it, everyone they are told to look up to and respect are celebrated for it. Why wouldn't they think they could commit fraud? It's the American Way.
Gen Zers are so disillusioned with the economy that they think it’s OK to commit fraudfortune.com A third of Gen Zers either know someone who has participated in payment fraud or have done so themselves.

This seems like a good day for Sotomayor and/or Kagan to say "I can no longer work with colleagues who are using their positions of power to undermine the greatest constitutional republic the world has ever known. I am resigning now so that the President can find someone else who can stomach this."

Yeah it’s bad enough without people who’ve been pretty dismissive of protest during this administration, just weeks ago, turning around and demanding people take to the streets now

sorry but “keep electing democrat presidents and senate majorities indefinitely until enough of scotus dies” never was and certainly is not now good enough. it’s just now. party leadership needs to wake the fuck up

it's actually extremely funny that we were told we can't use Wikipedia for research in the early 2000s but Wikipedia may be the only reason we even have a somewhat coherent historical record of culture and events from the last 25 years or so and will probably be needed to create future history texts
