Why did Romney have to comment on it? Perhaps it was journalists asking the candidate questions about it? Perhaps journalists could be asking Trump similar questions?

The Todd Akin “legitimate rape” gaffe happened during the 2012 presidential election cycle. Broke through, Romney had to comment on it. Very different media cycles this year, and Biden’s age overwhelms many of them.

I do captioning for a living, & a big part of my job is cleaning up false starts & filler words. That has always been the norm at every media outlet. Print media edits Trump so carefully that you would never know what he actually sounds like. Doing this to Biden is a 180 from decades of policy.

Now everyone--The Times and, sorry to say, MSNBC--is noting every missed syllable. The man has a stutter. I don't stutter but I am a mushmouth who speaks too fast and slurs words. I've had to overcome fear of public speaking. I have empathy for Biden. The press has empathy for no one (but Trump).

In a week I want every person who called Biden a drooling corpse to be apologizing. I want then to actually crawl on their bellies, weeping. This gets my blood fucking *boiling*, man. Don't shit-talk elders like this.

This is pretty much exactly where I'm at, and I think it's dumb we're having this conversation at all right now. A year ago would've been understandable.

Let me try to put my cards on the table and lay out where I'm at re: Biden bowing out and the race in general. #1: I am bewildered by how many different factions are hostile to Biden and how bad the polls have been. In my view, he's a pretty good president (certainly better than I expected).
