trust is something that must be earned, and as we’ve spent the last 18 months steadily and deliberately destroying yours in us, we no longer find it necessary to even pretend that you should trust us.
Avatar
i don’t know how else you’re supposed to read that. amongst many other things wrong with this (there’s more over at boers daily), it’s a pretty straightforward assertion that you absolutely shouldn’t trust them, and if they *didn’t* mean that, they’re even worse at comms than they used to be
Avatar
today's battle in the war on meaning
Avatar
also, it’s nowhere near the main problem here, but, man, “essays” on twitter look like fucking shit, from a layout perspective
Avatar
ohh see I was trying to figure out what this even was

Second example in a week (after the death of the sister in law of the Senate majority leader) that none of Musk’s companies understand UX
Avatar
Like if a medium post had no understanding of padding and margins.
Avatar
And you have to pay for the privilege of publishing on the crappy articles platform!
Avatar
Avatar
Twitter fired those people and all questions about back pay should be directed to that nonexistent company.
Avatar
“This company is in Nevada. That is very different than the one that was in Delaware.”
Avatar
This is an entirely new company with absolutely zero history, and that is why we remain ...
Avatar
You too can rebrand as an entirely new company.
Avatar
Iunno, it's the bit about "Entirely new priorities" when talking about Trust & Safety that gives away the game. Not that we didn't already know.
Avatar
So basically Musk is upset that he keeps getting fact checked so he's going to shitcan the whole thing and let the bullshit flow, right?
Avatar
Avatar
He keeps removing the community notes from his own posts. Trust isn’t a concern there anymore.
Avatar
Trust in the cult leader. The cult is family. The cult is life.

Next on the chopping board: Safety.
Avatar
Bring in the tesla team for that
Avatar
Avatar
This feels like somebody said you know all this trust verbiage makes us legally liable, can we just not do trust anymore?
Avatar
Avatar
“You can choose whether or not CSAM appears on your feed.”

Narrator: "Actually you couldn't"
Avatar
“Safety of our users is important to us, which is why we won’t do sweet fuck-all about the Nazis openly and habitually threatening everyone who aren’t Nazis with being thrown into camps”
Avatar
“The safety of our users is important to us… That’s why we protect people who smear child p0$!n on the platform and stalk children! They deserve a platform too!!”
Avatar
I feel like musk is treated at shitter like he’s treated at the rest of his companies: ignored and everyone just braces for him to show up and get involved
Avatar
The "Trust" in "Trust and Safety" wasn't about consumers trusting TWITTER, it was about giving users tools like verification and anti-spam that enabled them to make better decisions about what to trust WHEN USING Twitter. Now that the answer is "don't trust ANYTHING on X..." job done, I guess.
Avatar
I guess that makes sense, considering that eBay coined the term (IIRC).
Avatar
I didn't know that, but it makes sense. You're not "trusting eBay." You're buying things from PEOPLE on eBay, and their job is to give you tools to help establish how trustworthy sellers are. (Imagine how annoyed buyers would be if scammy sellers could buy a "trusted seller" rating for $8/mo).

OUR TEAM REMAINS INDISPENSABLE

Iiiii do believe you've cracked it 🔍

NO SERIOUSLY. I TRIED TO FIRE THEM BUT THE FTC PERSON IN CHARGE OF OVERSEEING THE CONSENT DECREE SUDDENLY STARTED CHANTING OMINOUSLY WHILE THEIR EYES BEGAN TO GLOW AND THE SKY DARKENED. I LITERALLY CAN'T DISPENSE WITH THEM.
Avatar
This feels like that thing where a company department/department head start's randomly changing stuff in a desperate attempt to rebrand, not for the customer's sake, but to win back upper management's attention/mandate from heaven.
Avatar
Though it could just be Elon ordering, and overseeing, the reorientation of the deck chairs while the Titanic is sinking.
Avatar
So turns out Elon got triggered by this post, and then Trust and Safety announced their name changed 10 minutes later.
Avatar
this is a tweet? looks like not a tweet lol
Avatar
Everyone knows the best possible way to earn a users' trust is to eliminate the people at your company dedicated to creating and preserving it.
Avatar
"an entirely new set of priorities": a euphemism.
Avatar
It’s so much nicer here. 💙
Avatar
"Under truth in advertising laws we have had to rename our Trust and Safety Team."
Avatar
Avatar
Yup! Views Elon doesn't like are heavily censored, mostly indirectly by making them virtually impossible to be seen and the posters are harassed with timeouts, demotions in visibility, and closing of their accounts.
Avatar
oh, you're only paying attention to all the times Elon censored people? Why aren't you giving him credit for the many times he resisted that urge?
Avatar
I think I did. He only censors people whose views he disagrees with. As long as they agree with him he may even promote their posts. It's his company, he can do as he likes, but to pretend it doesn't censor, or is anti-censorship, is a lie.
Avatar
“It isn’t censorship if we are the ones responsible!” -Twitter probably
Avatar
They explicitly ban the accounts of dissidents and activists based on requests from authoritarian governments. I mean, shit, if it was even just Elon booting off Liam Nissan or whatever.
Avatar
Trust is something that must be burned, apparently
