It's official, you can write the stupidest shit imaginable and as long as it denigrates anybody to the left of Generalissimo Franco and/or whitewashes authoritarian lunacy it WILL get published in the Times.

Donald Trump has good days and bad days but increasingly only bad days. He's lost it - he can't focus and his brains are leaking out his ears, but the press is very impressed with him because HE CAN STILL SHOUT
"RETRUTH IF YOU WANT TELEVISED MILITARY TRIBUNALS" is, to me, a deranged and instantly disqualifying thing for a presidential candidate to say, but on the other hand joe biden looks and sounds very old

If you paid attention to Trump's side of the debate, he had the same underlying problem Biden did, where over and over he would start a sentence and realize he couldn't say or remember the words that would come next, but where Biden stalled out, Trump just switched to blurting something unrelated

Not even talking each guy’s presidential record and policies, we are talking about each’s projection of their own mental states on the day of and in the week-plus since the 2024 CNN debate. That’s it Same nine day period for Biden and Trump. Compare / contrast / etc 🤷‍♀️
In the exact same nine day period that Biden and his White House and campaign have been flailing, Trump has offered voters a window into his own mental state and vision for term 2 It’s not great! www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

I do captioning for a living, & a big part of my job is cleaning up false starts & filler words. That has always been the norm at every media outlet. Print media edits Trump so carefully that you would never know what he actually sounds like. Doing this to Biden is a 180 from decades of policy.
Now everyone--The Times and, sorry to say, MSNBC--is noting every missed syllable. The man has a stutter. I don't stutter but I am a mushmouth who speaks too fast and slurs words. I've had to overcome fear of public speaking. I have empathy for Biden. The press has empathy for no one (but Trump).

The biggest issue with Biden coverage is that he’s now The Story, which means that most of the press is focused on The Story and not any of the context or consequences. If we were having a serious discussion about qualifications for presidency, age, and the two main candidates, I’d be fine with it.

ironically i screwed it up - he said billion instead of trillion. starting to think i’ll never be president
Avatar
what are we doing here? he accidentally said million instead of billion and then immediately knew it and corrected himself. he didn’t “flub a line” and then “make an effort to correct himself,” he did the speaking equivalent of a typo that you know you’ve made and instantly correct

This is the editorial view of the guy who controls which posts get shown on Vichy Twitter and which get buried. Insane that journalists continue to use it as a source of information and contribute to its legitimacy

Will no one say out loud that major media loved the Trump presidency for what it did for their profits? If any of them are inexplicably biased in coverage towards it it’s for purely selfish, craven reasons.

Could there be something different in the way the media — let’s say this very paper — treats and runs stories about these two candidates that explains much of these differences? No, don’t be silly. www.nytimes.com/2024/07/05/u...

Due respect to the professor, this is laughable special pleading on behalf of John Roberts—his old boss—whom he repeatedly conflates with the whole court in this piece. www.nytimes.com/2024/07/05/o...

I have no idea the best path re Biden but I do know a solid week straight of “Biden Old” and “Rich Dems Worried” above-the-fold stories are *obscene* in the face of SCOTUS using the Constitution to wipe their asses purely in the service of reinstating a felon rapist as president. Crazy-making shit.

It really is making *me* feel crazy to see a bunch of other Democrat voters running around screaming about how Biden is now unelectable, on the basis of one bad debate and an incredibly obvious ratfucking campaign by America’s most craven newspaper.

Keeping Trump out of the White House isn’t the only thing that needs doing and it isn’t enough to solve all problems facing the country & world but if it isn’t done then all those problems get exponentially worse in ways I don’t even know how to express and it scares me when people pretend otherwise

Meanwhile, the opinion folks continue to have a sense of the most important issues facing the country.

A quiet revolution and coup taking place in the background my entire life, the noose slowly tightening around all our necks. It's bad!

It has been five days since the debate and I have yet to see a single working journalist or columnist even remark upon how almost every answer Trump gave at the debate was openly racist towards Hispanics/Latinos. We, apparently, are a demographic not worth defending. (NOTE: not a comment on Brooke)
Something real bad is happening over on Twitter holy shit. I just saw some real bad tweets about immigrants from folks I had previously thought were anti-racist progressives

The Framers: *literally wrote many, many passages that you would swear on your life were prophetic visions of Donald J. Trump, and how such a figure must be guarded against at all costs* John Roberts: surely what they wanted is for this uniquely lawless figure to be placed above the law

If anyone can point me to a comparable New York Times subhead shoe-horning in a statement that "Donald Trump, under scrutiny since his conviction on 34 felony counts, was not arrested for any new crimes today" I'd sure be appreciative.
