why did Karl Mannheim have to put me on blast like this

the words "a" and "the" are still muted btw

got an article promoted to me fearmongering about national debts and it quoted Ken Rogoff. has nobody learned anything? Rogoff sold austerity in 2010 with an article based on an Excel error. He literally caused many deaths and should STFU forever. Don't quote him! www.nytimes.com/2013/04/19/o...
Opinion | The Excel Depression (Published 2013)www.nytimes.com Did a coding error basically destroy the economies of the Western world? You be the judge.

yinz are all still on mute btw. nothing I've seen since I muted "a" and "the" has made me regret this

if health is that much of an issue then he should resign, and if he resigns then they should nominate President Harris. even if he doesn't resign, at an open convention they should and would nominate Harris. Biden being old isn't a reason to disqualify her.

Feinstein was kinda load bearing with Kavanaugh because the initial allegation was sent to her, but the counterfactual there is probably allegations come out well before the hearings > an equivalent FedSoc ghoul is quietly swapped in (or, Republicans ignore them just like they did anyway)

("allegations" is not meant to imply I don't believe them)

people were freaking out about numbers that had been explicitly framed as "one image generates as much carbon as driving your car past two parking spaces" (well the framing was "1000 images is like driving a car blah blah." but people weren't thinking about how much they drive)

there are going to be a lot of takes saying it’s antisemitic to blame AIPAC for latimer’s win and i just want to say no it is not

I read a few posts and felt like when the Guardian cricket blog was getting very excited about the end of the US Pakistan match and I couldn't tell whether we'd won

For the millionth time: Asking people how they think they were affected doesn’t tell you jack shit about whether they were actually affected! NYT can’t keep getting away with this! See paper from @mattgraham.bsky.social @aecoppock.bsky.social alexandercoppock.com/graham_coppo...
absolutely incredible framing. in ten car pile up seven drivers survive

people tried to sell you on this... after the GW Bush Administration? they do not mean you well

So think I just punched a decent-sized hole in a claim abt post-2010 prison drops that sat well w me: the claim by Right-on-Crime types that red states had something to teach us abt decarceration. My suspicion, that I now have numbers for? It was their blue counties doing the real work.

can presumably still quote the reply if you want to continue the conversation out of the thread-starters mentions?

it kinda seems like the dem congressfolk who come closest to vociferous anti-wokeness are House members (including a couple boomers) elected post-Obama esp. in swing districts (and Richie Torres) though I may be conflating "loudly centrist" with "anti-woke" myself here
Avatar
I think maybe this is more true of pundits/strategists and less of electeds, who are more his peer group. Even old annoying centrist Senators like Cardin, King, Carper, and Shaheen AFAIK don't spend much time being anti-"woke." (Manchin being a special case.)

after the last midterm I'm not absolutely certain that a Biden midterm generates backlash, though the last time a two-term president had two good midterms was probably never. Given trends I have no hope for IA but TX... will remain forever the great purple whale idk maybe an IA special gets weird

(I was just like "I can't remember who replaced Grassley")

not completely out of the question for Dems to gain a Senate seat or two in '26. Dems are defending two seats Biden won by <5 (GA, MI) and two more he won by <10 (MN, NH), R's are defending one seat Biden won by 9 (ME), one he lost by <5 (NC), and he lost TX and IA by <10...ok that's pretty remote.

I always remember the story of investors getting stuck in a Google self driving car in mountain view for maybe 45 minutes because it was programmed to follow the rules on merging and no one would let it into the road

Finally digging into today's opinion. It's much more nuanced than everyone on here is giving it credit for 🙄
Avatar
I'm expecting another round, or rather under the terms of a prediction, I think "Biden wins and Republicans try another coup" is more likely than "Republican leaders get back on side with democracy of their own accord"
Avatar
part of the ways that they suck ass is that they seemed to care a lot more about shivving Bowman than drawing districts where it was easier for Democrats to beat Republicans

i do like how they are like fae. very powerful entities you can ask questions of who are just as likely to deceive you as help you and also you can bind them with cleverly worded requests to make them do something they don't 'want' to do

yeah the problem here is not that it can't spell, it's that it hasn't figured out that it can't spell maybe if it keeps scraping the web, the corpuses will become so full of jokes about LLM's spelling that it will learn this (anthromorphism not to be taken literally)

IMO "burned to the ground" (via 14th Amendment) is more likely than coming back to the fold

Yeah sometimes they are criticized in an antisemitic way. This is also true of Epstein and Weinstein. But I'm seeing a bunch of goyim throwing around ((())) when people talk about AIPAC spending record amounts of money to unseat Jamaal Bowman. Fucking stop.
