The DC press likes easy scandals and horse race coverage. They will be on this for awhile. If they were actually interested in policy or whatever we’d be in a very different place.
This is also a weird product of summer 2024’s relative peace, prosperity, and boring news cycles. No pandemics, recessions, wars, riots, or crime waves to cover.

And now this regarding Trump's sexual assault on two underage girls, provided to him by Epstein. Perhaps we should be more concerned with the convicted rapist, accused pedophile & convicted felon threatening to end democracy, than the old guy with a cold. TRIGGER WARNING
Before he married Melania 2005, Trump regularly called Jeffrey Epstein in 2004. Trump’s phone messages are in the W. Palm Beach indictment of Epstein, released today. His messages appear between girls calling to confirm “massage appointments” & calls from disgraced modeling agent Jean Luc Brunel.

I mean if you're gonna get covered like that anyway what's the point in trying to play by the rules? "Rules" that don't apply to both sides aren't rules, they're abuse. So at least have some fun. bsky.app/profile/cmer...
Yeah that only works if you're a Republican. This is the fastest way to full scandal treatment by the press. The rules of the media are different for Dems and GOP. Don't believe me? How many front page stories for Trump using unsecured phones vs "her emails?"

a funny thing Biden could do, unitary-executive-authority-wise is just order GSA to stop cutting paychecks to a bunch of Republican judges and law clerks for a while.

Pride BEGAN during a time of anti-sodomy laws. The first Pride was a riot against those laws. Pride is celebrated around the world in places where it is much more dangerous to be queer than here. Pride is not dependent on being ALLOWED to be who we are, it’s a promise that we WILL be no matter what
I hope we all enjoyed our last Pride month in the US. Project 2025 will put an end to it

the times continues its vigorous campaign to end democracy. literally the same playbook they ran in 2016 with the emails. we're so fucked. i'm existentially depressed.

Immigrants are critical to our society. They’re also critical to the American economy, paying billions in taxes and boosting economic growth. The demagogues who say otherwise are just trying to divide us against each other to consolidate their own power. Don't fall for it.

My perhaps lukewarm take is that is actually very bad news for Trump - people really start paying attention to the election after Labor Day, and he'll be getting sentenced after Labor Day. There will be no time to appeal before the election. He may very well be in jail on election day.
All of the institutional safeties that democrats clung to instead of actually doing the hard, scary work of protecting democracy have collapsed and are now handing the republicans and Trump a clear field for the take over of the country. No one is coming to save us but ourselves.

I see some good ideas being suggested, but here's my entry: he can now *commercially* pirate music, since to really be criminal rather than civil, needs to be commercial. So he could set up the White House's official pirate streaming service. And no one could do anything.
Okay, folks, who is putting together the list of the funniest crimes that Biden should be committing between now and election day to highlight the absurdity of today's immunity ruling? Not the stuff like assassinations. Just stuff to make a point.

The antithesis of Biden governing, the reason we are in the mess we are in now. After the Senate silence, Obama should have invoked the "silence gives consent" legal maxim and sent Marshals to accompany Garland to take his seat on SCOTUS. So he's part of this too. Always a knife to a gunfight.

No one actually cares about this stuff! You will not be rewarded for following DOJ protocol. You will be rewarded if you use as much power as you can get away with to make life better for your constituents, the same way Republicans use as much power as they can get away with to fuck us!

/4 More powerful, to a trial lawyer, is the prohibition on the use of immune acts as evidence. In almost every other context (save Speech & Debate), you can use things as evidence when you can’t prosecute for them. If I say “this man must die,” that’s usually protected by the First Amendment ….

/3 The problem is that almost anything can be shoehorned into an official act depending on how you characterize it or the level of generality you use. The Court’s “well of course a President has to use due care that election laws are enforced” hints at this.

/2 Motive being irrelevant means that the President can do a thing for expressly lawless reasons so long as the thing is within the extremely broad range of official acts. So question isn’t “can the President conspire to defraud,” it’s “can the President call a state official about an election.”

/7 Justice Roberts smug and superior dismissal of the dissents’ concerns seems to come to us via time warp from some time that never knew Trump. The danger of lawlessness he poses are manifest — he and his followers brag of them. Only a liar or fool would dismiss them.
