Considering Trump is fine enough to golf, it’s a good day to read another pov on Trump’s Project 2025 and ponder why ‘martyrs’ and authoritarians hate women.
Recently, I read one of the first dystopian novels-- PUBLISHED in 1937-- Before Austria was annexed. Before Kristallnacht. Before WWII. 12 years before Orwell would pen 1984. Set 600 years in the future Third Reich Empire. This book has a lot, I think, to teach us about Project 2025 and Trump.

There’s a nigh infinite number of books to be written about the early decades of the FDA. Every claim of “The market will fix it because consumers will demand clean/safe $ITEM” only works if: 1) The market provides such a thing, despite monopolies. 2) It actually is and not marketing bullshit.
WE remember the convenience pitches, but sanitation/hygiene/health pitches were VERY common at the time: Our Brand Won't Kill You Thanks to SCOTUS we'll find out empirically, again, which brands of food will kill us.

A hill I will die on: all white-collar crimes are violent crimes. It's just that the violence is removed from the perpetrator because the perpetrator is wealthy.
Holy. Shit. They're literally saying Trump's felonies aren't that bad compared to the "real felonies". Bear in mind, they're ignoring J6 and "gimme 12000 votes" call and the stolen docs. We joke, but this is literally Newsmax copy.

Side-note, but one thing that should be on a Dem legislative agenda is formally codifying academic standards for what can legally be called a university and have the authority to grant valid qualifications. Make it clear that Bob Jones, Liberty, etc are vanity grift organisations and nothing more.
And remember, the Christian Right only took up abortion as a topic after they lost school segregation for good when the IRS went after Bob Jones’ U status, & needed a new issue to rally the troops. 1/x all our issues are intertwined. 🧵

I kinda feel like now that the Supreme Court has declared it legal for a president to straight-up murder people they don't like, it's probably even more important to not elect people who seem extremely inclined to murder people they don't like

There's this weird thing happening when someone says "I'm voting for Biden because I want us to still have elections long after he's dead" and people equate that with "Biden is awesome and I agree with his actions regarding Gaza"
ok but seriously nut up. nobody here loves biden. I’d rather vote for a sentient captcha machine that electrocutes my eyeballs every time I tag all the bicycles and it thinks I missed a fuckin train wheel. but that’s what we got and if you want to live in a fantasy I have no time for your ass

I made this Pride flag using only NASA images and our team thought it would be cool to share on social (I work on the NASA heliophysics communications team), but it's getting all sorts of hate on the bird app and Fbook. Thought y'all might be more appreciative of it here. ☺️🏳️‍🌈💖

The absolutely wild thing is: This goes for ALL social aid. Just *giving people some fucking money,* literally going "OK, how much did you need?", cutting checks, and waving them out the door? COSTS LESS and HAS BETTER OUTCOMES than the current system's bureaucracy and means testing, EVERY TIME.
With alt-text because THIS IS LITERALLY EVERYONE’S EXPERIENCE & I FUCKING HATE IT. Being disabled is a godsdamn full time job battling different agencies all damn day. #NEISvoid

Artists: Never let them tell you that what you do isn't important. We're so important that we're always one of the first things authoritarians go after. "Change the stories, you change the power structures."
I honestly think this is part of the same movement as generative "A.I." Replace human artists with generic bullshit machines stripped of human agency and opinion in service of authoritarianism. www.nytimes.com/2024/06/21/a...

24 hours later and not a single article on this. It's disgusting how the media will scandalize every aspect of our existence except our deaths.
There were 16 trans youth suicides after gender affirming care restrictions were implemented in the UK in 2020 compared with only 1 in the 7 years prior. Staff at the NHS attempted to cover it up. Hilary Cass knew but minimized what was happening. This is a massive scandal. Cass lied, kids died.

The number of times I've seen someone INSIST that a certain character was an "author surrogate" based on nothing other than "I want them to be one so it fits my argument"...
Not quoting directly because I’m not going to drag folks into the OP’s mentions, but this is one of the single most exhausting aspects of writing fiction.

Some reduce the 2024 campaign to a contest between two old men, but it's a choice of two slates of federal appointees who'll impact your life in a million ways. Biden has staffed executive agencies with excellent choices who are doing good work. Trump will empower an army of Stephen Millers.
Under current law, you really couldn’t do much better than Biden’s FTC and NRLB. New Deal shit.

“Do not use your phone to answer phone calls” is not advice as much as it’s a condemnation of regulatory inaction that has led a vital means of communication to ruin.
The first rule of avoiding scam calls is to never answer unknown numbers, and even some known ones. Curious? Bored? Worried it’s an emergency? Wait the extra minute it takes for the call to go to voice mail, then decide if it’s legitimate.
Sick of scams? Stop answering your phone.www.washingtonpost.com Phone scams are still hugely popular — and they depend entirely on people curious enough to answer.
