Tell me I'm wrong: A bunch of the media and donor class panicked, for good reason, after the debate. Made a big coordinated push to make Biden step aside. Didn't work, wounding pride of lots of big egos. Now too miffed to concede so stuck denying that Biden can win to justify continued aid to Trump.

A. G. Sulzberger, New York Times publisher and chairman, is an evil enemy of democracy and the American people. Yank the fucking choke chain on this rabid cur.
aaand predictably, Sulz has started the anti-Kamala attacks ,guy really thinks he can swing the election to whoever won't raise his taxes, this POS needs to be put back in place the American people ASAP

I’ve been critical of Attal and his rhetoric over the last 3.5 weeks: but if the RN loses on Sunday, he should be remembered as the one in the Macronist bloc who maneuvered to avoid the president’s bonkers gamble result in a far-right government.

Explosive reporting in Le Monde confirms what was apparent all week: Macron resisted the emergence of anti-far-right front after round 1. His PM, Attal, forced it as a fait accompli, & pressured for drop outs to block RN. Even then, Macron made some phone calls to undercut it.

I love when people acknowledge that Dems have a turnout problem, but then insist that the leadership shouldn't take a stronger stance on critical issues. Do they really think that it's the centrist voters that are staying home because Hillary and Joe are just too radical for them?

All credit to Taraji P Henson for using her platform to publicize how dangerous Project 2025 is, I’m sure the spike in googling it after the BET Awards has some people shaken.

According to Savannah UK, three quarters (73%) of the UK public say the biggest factor behind Labour's landslide victory was wanting the end of a Conservative government, rather than a desire for a Labour government. So Keir Starmer shouldn't flatter himself. He's got a mandate built on sand.

Trump's supporters pre-Jan 6 spent months sharing blueprints for guillotines and gallows, planning chemical weapons attacks on the tunnels beneath the white house, and discussing the most painful ways to kill Pence, Pelosi, and Schiff. Trump egged them on. I personally don't want round 2.
I for one am pretty fixated on not having to spend even more years of my life wondering if Donald fucking Trump is going to deploy nuclear weapons

I do think if Team Biden decides he’s not up for it (which I sincerely doubt), he should resign and let Kamala become President immediately.

Yup: Fascism is just interpersonal abuse scaled for a population!

Here’s the thing: you still have a much larger, better audience on Twitter than here. I know this because I’ve spent a lot of time trying to raise money from liberals and I raise maybe 100% more from Twitter than Bluesky.
Maybe don't post there

It's not the worst of it, but what I may be actually angriest about (right now) is Roberts' smarmy smugness and dismissiveness in the final two paragraphs of section IV and the whole of section V. "Fear mongering," "extreme hypotheticals," "our perspective must be more farsighted," and this.

Merrick Garland has so much to answer for. This decision would not have turned out this way if the prosecution had come in 2021, when Trump’s re-election didn’t seem imminent. They’re deciding this way because they think he’s coming back.

Can we start treating this "You have less than six months" refrain from neo-Nazis and far-right extremists as anything other than open death threats? It's out of control

"A republic, if you can keep it." Plot twist: we can't.

Saying someone is presumptively immune from prosecution then barring the introduction of evidence of their mental state is a neat trick.

I will take the L here. I absolutely did not think the Court was going to do this. You may mock me now
Genuinely curious what the hell john roberts was thinking

Sorry this actually pisses me off right now. This entire thing is seen as a legendary blunder, Dukakis was in a tank! It destroyed him! Trump saluted a North Korean general! The dictator of North Korea stared at him doing it like what the fuck man, but Dukakis was in a tank and ruined forever!

"Under this ruling, a president can order the assassination or jailing of their political rival, and be immune...They can organize a military coup to hold onto power, and still be immune. If that sounds mad, that’s because it is." - @jrpsaki bluevirginia.us/2024/07/reac...

In breaking news from the Supreme Court, they’ve upheld my book’s subtitle.

🚨New expert survey data from Bright Line Watch🚨 93% of experts surveyed before the ruling (starting June 20) say that SCOTUS upholding Trump’s immunity claim threatens democracy 60% say it represents an extraordinary threat 27% say it represents a serious threat (Full report coming next week.)

im calming down— shit's fucked. shit's always been fucked.

Libs acting like Trump's going to have members of Congress shot in their chambers, or have the Vice President hanged outside the Capitol or something

Arguably, none of the complaints against King George III in the Declaration of Independence would be illegal if the President did them now according to the new SCOTUS ruling

America can accept this Supreme Court as legitimate and its rulings as the final word - or it can have true democracy and a functioning state. But not both.   Wrote this a year ago - and things have only gotten worse: The Rogue Court vs Modern Democracy 1/ thomaszimmer.substack.com/p/the-rogue-...

Congrats to all the profs at elite law schools who loudly vouched for John Roberts and Neil Gorsuch when they were nominated. Hope you placed your students in some nice clerkships.
